I've just returned home from a week at the most incredible resort — Soneva Jani — in the Maldives. This is the second time in the past 12 months that I've stayed there, each time for seven days! I was blown away, once again, by the level of service. Every single person on the staff bent over backwards to accommodate me and make my stay pleasant. The attention to detail with everything was just incredible, and the food was amazing! Thank you to the management and all the team at Soneva Jani — you absolutely went above and beyond what I expected. Hope to come again next year!
I had a disappointing experience at Soneva Jani. During my stay, I found the resort to be quite dirty, with noticeable cleanliness issues. Additionally, the island had an unusually high number of snakes, making the environment uncomfortable. The beach was also not well-maintained, plagued by excessive sea grass. When it rained, there were multiple leaks, causing discomfort. Lastly, the food did not meet the expected standards, leaving much to be desired. Overall, this experience did not deserve the money I paid for it.
We stayed for 10 nights at an overwater villa and the experience was enchanting and dreamlike from start to finish. The villa had everything we needed and we felt completely looked after by all of the hosts in a way which was always "just right". The location is as close to paradise as we have ever been. We undertook yoga at Soneva Soul most days and this provided the perfect start to a day of lounging, swimming and relaxing. The quality of the food was outstanding, and the attentiveness of the chef and cooks was amazing — they were completely open to cooking us whichever dish we liked. In summary, after a lot of research about where to go, we felt like we found "the" gem in the Maldives. Thank you.
Spectacular stay! Hard to describe in words — everything has been exceptional. The attention of Alexander was a 10 out of 10, always attentive and willing to get everything we asked. Exquisite meals and activities at the level of the hotel.
Little or nothing to snorkel off the beach. Some islands in this band run a free boat to a reef — the note below says whether this one does.
The largest lagoon in the Maldives, and the villas are built over sand rather than reef on purpose. It is stunning to look at and the swimming is warm, safe and shallow, but there is no reef off your steps, and guests who came for snorkelling say so bluntly. The house reef is a short boat ride, complimentary and daily, and the coral out there is healthy. Rays, turtles and baby sharks do drift through the lagoon. If the reef is the point of the trip, Soneva Fushi is the sister island to ask us about.
Land at Velana after 15:00 and the last transfer of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
There is a second way in. Domestic flight to Maafaru + speedboat, about 40 min, for arrivals at Velana up to 19:10.
Soneva keeps its own lounge at the seaplane terminal, shared with Soneva Fushi and Soneva Secret. The flight is Manta Air and the wait usually runs one to two hours.
