What Our Guests Say

Simply the best trip

I stayed in a water villa that felt incredibly cosy, with views that were simply spectacular. One of the most memorable highlights of my trip was exploring the reef and seeing the vibrant corals up close—it was truly breathtaking. The food was exceptional throughout my stay, and I can honestly say I had the best cheesecake there. What made the experience even more special was the staff, who were always warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. It was an unforgettable getaway, and I would absolutely love to return again.

Oceanfront Bliss with Unforgettable Snorkeling

Had an amazing stay at this resort. The water villa was a dream—waking up to stunning ocean views and a beautiful sunrise every morning was unforgettable. The scenery all around was breathtaking, with a calm and relaxing vibe throughout. The desserts at every meal were a real highlight—delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were warm and friendly, and the snorkelling experience was incredible, with vibrant reefs and plenty of colorful fish. Would definitely come back!

Best Stay Ever!

The ambiance of this island resort is truly top notch! Especially being located in South Ari Atoll the island's house reef is excellent and rich. Rooms are cosy, with all villas set on the lagoon with exceptional view to the Indian Ocean. Most importantly the hospitality and service offered at the resort was remarkable with friendly staffs. With world-class international cuisine, fusion creations and authentic Maldivian flavours it made the stay even more enjoyable. I simply loved it!

Drift Thelu Veliga Retreat

Price on enquiry Rates move with season, villa and meal plan. Send us the dates and we'll come back with a full costing, transfers included, within 24 hours.

Drift Thelu Veliga is a private island of just over a hectare in South Ari Atoll, 90 km southwest of Malé. Ten beach villas, twenty water villas, and a house reef that sits 50 metres off the beach. South Ari is whale shark water, and the boat that goes looking for them is 20 minutes away.

Two ways in: a 35-minute seaplane, or a 35-minute domestic flight to Maamigili followed by a 30-minute speedboat.

What this actually costs

Room rates here move with the season and with the transfer you pick, so we quote them against your dates rather than publishing one figure. What we can be straight about is what you spend once you are on the island. These prices were current in August 2026 and we confirm them when we quote.

  • The transfer is the first real decision. The seaplane is 35 minutes and flies in daylight only. The domestic flight to Maamigili plus a 30-minute speedboat takes longer but runs to a fixed schedule. Send us your flight times and we will tell you which one actually works.
  • Excursions are where the money goes on a small island. A dolphin cruise is US$85 per adult and US$35 per child, sunrise fishing US$155 and US$65, island hopping with a beach barbecue US$120 and US$55. Sunset fishing is US$95, and it comes free once on all-inclusive bookings.
  • The private set-pieces are priced per couple, not per person. An in-villa barbecue, a romantic dinner on the beach and a private sunset cruise are US$250 each. An in-villa champagne breakfast is US$150. A blessing or vow renewal on the beach or a sandbank is US$2,500.

Who this isn’t for

Anyone who needs choice at dinner. There is one open-air restaurant seating 64 and a beachfront lounge bar, and that is the whole dining scene. Over a long stay you will know the menu.

Anyone who wants space. The island is a hectare. Beach villas are 39 sq m and water villas 54, which is small by current Maldives standards, and none of them has a private pool.

Families who need facilities. There is no kids’ club. Babysitting is arranged on request and that is the extent of it.

Before you book

  • The house reef is the reason to come. It sits 50 metres from the beach, so you swim to it rather than book a boat, and the dive centre runs lessons, certifications and trips. Theluveligau Giri is ten minutes out; Broken Rock is an hour and a quarter.
  • Whale sharks are seasonal and never guaranteed, even here. Twenty minutes by speedboat is about as close as any resort in the Maldives sits to them, but nobody can promise you a sighting on a given morning.
  • Small practical things. In-villa dining runs 8 am to 10 pm, Wi-Fi covers the island, and the plugs are European three-pin at 220V. The village trip to Dhangethi needs modest dress.

Tell us your dates, how many of you there are and which way you would rather fly in, and we will come back with villa availability, a firm transfer cost and a total for the stay. Message our Maldives specialists on WhatsApp or send us an enquiry. We reply within 24 hours.
