The Somerset Hotel Malé

The Somerset is a small city hotel of 30 rooms on Keneree Magu, a quiet street in central Malé, a few minutes on foot from the National Museum, Sultan Park and the fish market. It is about fifteen minutes by car from Velana airport, and the hotel's shuttle meets you at arrivals and takes you back for your flight. Breakfast is included.

It suits a night or two in the capital: a late landing before a resort, a day of sightseeing, an early ferry from the Malé jetties, or a business trip. We price The Somerset on request for your dates.

The rooms

There are five room types over five floors, and every room is soundproofed, with a desk, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a coffee machine and a safe.

The Superior Room (20 square metres) and the Executive Superior Room (25 square metres) have a queen bed and suit a couple for a short stay. The Deluxe Room (32 square metres) has a separate living area and comes with a king bed or twin beds, so it is the one for two friends or colleagues.

The Family Suite (37 square metres) and the Premier Business Suite (40 square metres) each have a king bed and a sofa bed in a separate living area, and sleep up to four. They are the only rooms that take a third or fourth guest.

What's included, and what isn't

Included: your room, the breakfast buffet at Belle Amie Bistro from 06:00 to 10:00, the hotel's airport shuttle both ways, Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping and free luggage storage on the day you leave.

Not included: lunch and dinner, early check-in or late check-out, laundry, excursions, your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.

Belle Amie Bistro, off the lobby, serves local and international dishes for lunch and dinner from 11:00 to 22:30, with afternoon tea from 15:00 to 18:00 and a themed dinner buffet at weekends.

Who this isn't for

Anyone who wants a drink. Malé is dry, and no hotel in the city serves alcohol.

Anyone who wants a pool, a spa or a beach. The Somerset has none; guests get access to a fitness centre nearby. Bikinis are not worn anywhere in Malé City, including Hulhumalé and Villimalé.

Anyone on a short stopover who would rather be near the sea. Hulhumalé is closer to the terminal and has a long beach. The Somerset is the better base for seeing Malé itself, covered in the Malé city guide.

Before you book

Send us your flight times so the shuttle can meet you, and for your departure tell us whether you are flying home or going on to a resort or island. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out by 12:00. Early check-in and late check-out can be guaranteed for a fee.

Cribs are available, and the main guest must be 18 or over. The hotel is non-smoking. Malé has no parking and no need for a car: the jetties, markets and sights are all within walking distance.
