Twenty minutes from Male, so you will see the city on the horizon, and one of the better reefs within that range, which is an unusual pairing. Book a reef villa and the drop-off is a few steps from your ladder; from an ocean villa it is a swim. Soft corals, which are scarcer than people assume, plus reef sharks and morays most days and resident marine biologists to point them out. The current will drift you gently along the reef edge, which is the nicest way to do it. The villa category matters more here than almost anywhere, so tell us if the reef is the priority.

About the resort
Every figure on this page carries a 50-minute spa treatment for each of you, a sunset cruise, and the shared speedboat both ways. That is unusual at this price.
The boat takes 20 minutes and runs at any hour, so a late landing at Velana still reaches the island the same night. The house reef at the end of it is one of the strongest within that range of Male.
There is a booking deadline on these prices, and it falls well before most people on this page will travel. Ask us to confirm it.
What you pay
Pick a villa and a meal plan above. The figure is the whole stay for two adults, three nights, or four on a split stay. Everyone in the villa has to be on the same plan.
Skip full board and take soft all inclusive. The step up is small for two across the stay, and it adds unlimited house beer, house wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee at mealtimes. Four rounds of drinks would clear it.
All inclusive sits a good deal above that and changes the holiday: spirits, cocktails, drinks all day rather than only at meals, a restocked minibar, and an hour a day of non-motorised water sports. Drink lightly and soft all inclusive is the buy.
The split stay is the value play. Two nights over the lagoon followed by two in a Beach Pool Villa comes to a little more than three nights in the beach villa on its own, and it buys you an extra night and the lagoon.
What’s included, and what isn’t
In the price: the villa, your meal plan, the shared speedboat both ways for two, a 50-minute spa treatment each, one sunset cruise, one shisha experience, and every Maldivian tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, excursions and diving, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
The resident marine biologist’s guided reef snorkel is free. The marine sports centre runs a paid guided snorkel as well, booked a day ahead. You can reach the reef from the island without either.
Firedoor, the steakhouse, is the one venue you have to book before turning up.
Who this isn’t for
Remote, this is not. Male sits on the horizon and the flight path is close. You get a boat at any hour in exchange.
Grand Park Kodhipparu does not recommend children under 12 in an overwater villa and asks parents to sign a waiver at check-in. With young children take the Beach Pool Villa, 78 square metres with a pool and the beach at the door. This is a family island with a kids’ club, not a hushed adults-only one.
The festive fortnight is not sold on these prices. Four nights minimum, their own rates, and a compulsory supplement per person on 31 December. Ask and we will quote them.
Before you book
The reef makes the villa choice matter. From a Reef Pool Water Villa the drop-off is a few steps from your ladder. From a lagoon villa it is a swim. Soft corals, reef sharks and morays most days.
Book excursions before you fly. Most run with a minimum of two guests, a few need four, and the good ones fill. Children under three go free and under twelves pay half.

Which villa you book decides your reef here, and it matters more at this resort than at most. Twenty minutes from Male with coral this good is an unusual pairing, and the reef sits a few steps from some villas and a swim from others. Tell us before you book if the snorkelling is the point, because it is the one thing you cannot fix once you arrive.

Day 1, arriving
A shared speedboat, about twenty minutes, running day and night. There is no daylight window to miss, so a late landing at Velana still puts you on the island the same night. Boats run to a schedule rather than to you, so allow a wait at the airport. Being this close to Male is the quiet advantage of the place: on a three or four night trip you lose almost nothing to travelling.
Do these three things when you land.
- Ask at check-in which way the current is running. It drifts gently along the reef edge, and going with it is the nicest way to snorkel here.
- Find the marine biologists. They are resident, and they will tell you where the sharks and morays have been that week.
- If your rate includes the spa treatment, book it on day one. The good slots go first.

Beyond it, the activity schedule and excursion prices are set by the resort and move through the season, so tell us which trips you want and we will price them against your dates. What is worth saying now is that the short distance to Male makes the half-day trips genuinely practical from here, which is not true of the far atolls.

Nothing to plan around. The boat runs at any hour, so an early flight home does not lose you a night the way it would on a seaplane island. Twenty minutes back to Velana also means you can leave the island late.
Who this island's day does not suit
Anyone who wants the horizon empty. You can see Male from here, and on a clear night you can see its lights. If the fantasy is total isolation, go further out and accept the longer transfer.
