Location and transfers
A boat has no daylight window, and that is the quiet advantage of this island. Seaplane resorts stop flying at dusk, and an evening landing there means paying for a night in the capital. Nothing here is daylight-limited. Send us your arrival time and we will have your boat confirmed against it before you book the flight.
A boat is far more forgiving on luggage than a seaplane. Ask us for the allowance on your booking if you are travelling heavy, and we will have it in hand before you pack.
Twenty minutes each way also means a short trip is not a compromise here. On three nights you lose almost nothing to travelling, which is not true of the far atolls.

The two 80 m² water villas have no pool, and this is the single most common surprise on the island. A glass floor panel and steps into the lagoon, but no pool. If a pool over the water is what you pictured, the step is to the 93 m² Pool Water Villa or Reef Pool Water Villa.
Of 120 villas, 102 are over the water and 18 are on the beach, and 65 of the 120 have a private pool. By category there are 27 Lagoon Water Villas, 28 Ocean Water Villas, 18 Beach Pool Villas and 5 Grand Residences. The two 93 m² pool water categories hold 42 between them. If a specific category matters to your dates, ask us and we will check what is open before you commit.
Children under twelve are not recommended in an overwater villa and parents are asked to sign a waiver of liability at check-in. It is a recommendation with a form attached rather than a refusal, but read the next point before you assume it is easy to work around.
The Beach Pool Villa is the only category on land, and there are eighteen of them. A family with young children who wants sand at the door is competing for one small category on a 120-villa island. Book early or ask us to check availability before you fix your dates.
The resort can move a booking between beach and water categories on availability, and it decides how a split stay is allocated. Sizes are single totals, indoor and outdoor together.

The all inclusive has a clock on it: drinks run 11:00 to 23:00 and nothing outside those hours is on the plan. That is the resort’s own published window, and it is where the folio grows. A nightcap after eleven is charged.
Lunch on the dine-around does not include Firedoor. Dinner does. Firedoor is the only signature restaurant on the island and it has to be booked before you walk up to it, so plan the evening rather than wander into it.
Since 1 July 2026 house mineral water is included at mealtimes on half board and full board. Before that date it was charged.
One meal plan covers everyone in the villa. You cannot put one adult on bed and breakfast and the other on all inclusive.
Check-in is 14:00 and check-out is noon, so on most stays the last lunch is yours to pay for whatever plan you are on.

Three venues, and that is the whole island. The Edge is where most meals happen, and guests on a week say the buffet repeats.
The Edge’s lunch is the one thing to check. The service and the closing time move, so ask us for the current hours before you plan a late lunch around it.
Firedoor is booked through the resort rather than at the door, and it is the only place on the island to eat that is not The Edge or Breeze.
The water
Why we rate the reef 5 out of 5
Twenty minutes from Malé, and still one of the better reefs inside that range. That pairing is unusual. Reefs this good are normally three hours and a seaplane away.
Soft corals, which are scarcer than people assume, with reef white-tip sharks, eagle rays, turtles, parrotfish, batfish, lionfish and titan triggerfish among what the resort lists. There are coral nurseries on the island and a resident marine biologist looking after them.
The current will drift you gently along the reef edge, which is the nicest way to swim it.
The villa category matters more here than almost anywhere. From a Reef Pool Water Villa the drop-off is a few steps from your ladder. From a lagoon villa it is a swim out. Tell us before you book if the snorkelling is the point, because it is the one thing you cannot fix on arrival.

Getting in, and what runs
The resident marine biologist runs a guided reef snorkel free of charge, with commentary on what you are looking at. The Marine Sports Centre also sells a guided thirty-minute snorkel, booked a day ahead for a slot between 08:30 and 16:30. You need neither one to see the reef.
Diving leaves twice a day: a two-tank morning departure at 08:30 and a single-tank afternoon departure at 14:30.
Swimming and snorkelling ability is required on every guided snorkel, and the resort says so plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered at the jetty.
Excursions generally need two guests to run, and four for the dolphin, stingray and shark trips. Shark snorkelling is twelve and over in the water, though younger children can join the boat and watch. On sunset fishing, under-twelves do not get their own line. Book before you fly rather than on the second morning.

Children and safety
- Under twelve in an overwater villa means a signed waiver. The resort does not recommend it and asks parents to sign a waiver of liability at check-in. It is a recommendation with a form rather than a refusal, so it is your call to make knowingly.
- The land option is one category of eighteen villas. Every other villa on the island is over the water. If sand at the door matters, the Beach Pool Villa is the answer and it is a small block on a 120-villa island. That is an availability problem rather than a money one, and it is solved by booking early.
- The Little Explorers Kids Club takes young children. The age range and the hours move through the season. Tell us how old your children are and we will pin both down for your dates, and tell you whether anything runs for teenagers.
- Babysitting has to be arranged ahead. It is not something to ask for on arrival. Tell us early if you need it and we will have it booked before you travel.
- Every guided snorkel needs a swimmer. Swimming and snorkelling ability is mandatory, on the free biologist-led snorkel as much as the paid one. There is no shallow-water version for a nervous child.
- A doctor and a nurse live on the island. That is unusual and it is worth knowing with young children. Twenty minutes from Malé also means the hospital is closer than from almost any other resort.

Things we would rather you heard from us
- You can see Malé from the beach. Twenty minutes from the airport buys you a boat with no daylight limit and takes away the middle-of-nowhere feeling. Guests who wanted the second thing do say so afterwards, and on a clear night the city lights are visible. If total isolation is the fantasy, go further out and accept the seaplane.
- The entry-level water villas have no pool. Eighty square metres, a glass floor panel, steps into the lagoon, and no pool. It is the most common surprise on this island by a distance. If the pool matters, move up to ninety-three square metres before you book rather than after you arrive.
- The all inclusive stops at eleven at night and does not start until eleven in the morning. That window is the resort’s own, and guests who miss it are the ones who write the unhappy reviews. Lunch on the dine-around also leaves Firedoor out, and anything in the villa is charged. Ask us for the written inclusion list before you buy the top plan.
- The buggies on the jetties are noisy, and the jetties are long. With 102 of 120 villas over the water, everything runs along those jetties. Water-villa guests report buggy noise at night and waits of half an hour or more at busy times, and the walk itself has no shade. None of that is a reason to avoid the island, but it is a reason to think about how far out you want to be.
- Three restaurants is the whole island. The Edge, Breeze and Firedoor. On three or four nights that is plenty. On a week, guests say the buffet repeats, and Firedoor is the only real change of scene, which makes booking it early worth the effort.
