Shared speedboat

Journey
About 30 minutes, airport to island
Last arrival that works
20:00

The last speedboat of the day leaves at 20:00. Allow an hour to clear the airport, so land well before then or plan a night in Malé before you reach the island.

A shared speedboat on a timetable that runs between 09:00 and 21:00, not a private boat, so you may wait at the airport for up to three hours for the next one. Landing late at night or very early in the morning needs a private boat, which is charged on top.

Staying on a local island

Triton Beach Hotel & Spa Maafushi stands on an island where Maldivians live and work, so the island's rules apply to everyone staying there.

No alcohol. It is not sold or served anywhere on an inhabited island. Swimwear on the tourist beach. In the village, cover shoulders and knees. Friday is the day off. Shops close for prayers and fewer boats run, so check your transfer times if you arrive or leave on a Friday.

Ask us about any of this before you book. We would rather you knew now than on the jetty.

About the hotel

Triton Beach Hotel & Spa is a hotel on Maafushi with a pool, a spa and rooms that face either the pool or the island. It suits couples and small families who want resort comforts at local-island prices. Every price here includes the room, breakfast or half board, the return shared speedboat and every tax, green tax included.

What this actually costs

The Deluxe Double with a pool view is the cheapest room and the one we suggest for most couples. The island-view version costs a little under a tenth more. The triple rooms take a third person, who is priced separately, and the Superior Suite costs about sixty percent more than the pool-view double.

Half board adds dinner, with drinks at the meal, and puts about a quarter on a three-night stay.

Prices move with the month. May to July, September and October are the cheapest. April, August, November and early December are about a sixth more. January to March is the dearest, around a third above the cheapest months.

Snorkelling equipment, bicycles and the pool are free to use. Excursions and spa treatments are extra.

Who this isn’t for

Anyone who wants a drink. Maafushi is an inhabited island and no alcohol is served on it. It is also a busy village rather than a private island: expect boats, scooters and other guest houses next door.

Families with very young children may find a resort with a kids’ club easier.

Before you book

The shared speedboat runs between 09:00 and 21:00 and takes about 30 minutes, but it waits to fill, so allow up to three hours at the airport. After 21:00 the only way across is a private boat, charged on top.

Christmas and New Year carry compulsory gala dinners and are not on the dropdown; we price them on request.

Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00. Honeymooners get the bed decorated at no charge; tell us when you book.

Send us your dates and your flight times. We will come back within 24 hours with the right room, the speedboat matched to your arrival and the full price for two, every tax included.

Tell us your dates and who is travelling

We will price two or three rooms with the shared speedboat and every tax included, and we can quote any dates outside the ones above. We reply within 24 hours.
