h78 Hulhumalé

h78 is a small beachfront hotel in Hulhumalé, 7 km from Velana airport, ten to fifteen minutes by car. Every price includes the room, your meal plan, the shared car to and from the airport and every tax, green tax included.

It suits a night or two near the airport with the public beach across the road, either side of a resort or island stay. The car meets you at arrivals at any hour, so h78 works for late landings that no resort boat will meet.

What you pay

The Deluxe Room is the cheapest and comes as a double or a twin. At 12 square metres it is compact: fine for a couple passing through, tight for a longer stay.

The Deluxe Seaview Room is half as big again at 18 square metres, with a balcony facing the sea, for about a fifth more. Six of the hotel's fifteen rooms are this type, and it is the one we would pick.

The Deluxe Suite has a separate lounge and is the only room that takes a third guest, for about a quarter to a third more than the Deluxe Room. There are only two, so ask early.

Half board adds dinner and full board adds lunch as well. On the Deluxe Room half board puts about a third on the night, so breakfast only, eating out in Hulhumalé, is usually the better buy.

The festive fortnight from 20 December is the dearest stretch, about a fifth above September to November, which is the cheapest. Pick your dates above. A stay that runs across two seasons comes through to us with the dates already filled in.

What's included, and what isn't

In the price: your room for the nights you pick, breakfast daily, dinner on half board and lunch too on full board, the return shared car between the airport and h78, the green tax and every Maldivian tax. Rooms have a wardrobe and blackout curtains, and the hotel has a lift, a 24-hour front desk, room service, laundry, Wi-Fi and beach towels.

Not in the price: a private car, early check-in or late check-out outside the free hours, excursions, your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.

Who this isn't for

Anyone who wants a drink. h78 serves no alcohol, and bikinis and revealing swimwear are not allowed in its public areas. The beach outside is a public beach in a busy town, not a resort beach.

Anyone who needs space. The Deluxe Rooms are small, and only the suite takes a third person. A family of four needs two rooms.

Before you book

Three nights is the shortest stay priced on this page. Ask us for a shorter stopover. Send us your flight times at least three days ahead and we arrange the pick-up. The shared car may wait 20 to 30 minutes for other guests landing near your flight. For your flight home, or a seaplane or boat to a resort, the car leaves h78 two to three hours before departure.

Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00. Arriving between 11:00 and 14:00, or leaving by 14:00, is free if the room is ready, but tell us a day ahead. Arriving from 06:00 to 11:00, or leaving between 14:00 and 18:00, is US$30. Before 06:00 or after 18:00 counts as an extra night, so book the night before an early landing.

Children under two stay free in their parents' room. Older children and a third adult go in the Deluxe Suite, and we price them on request.
