A real house reef close in and easily reached off the beach, with turtles, blacktip reef sharks and reef fish in quantity. Two things to know. Entry is over rock and broken coral in places and part of the shoreline has no beach at all, so which house you stay in matters. And the marine life this part of Baa is famous for, the mantas and whale sharks of Hanifaru Bay, is a seasonal boat trip rather than anything off your own steps. Snorkelling equipment is complimentary for the stay.

About the resort
The Nautilus Maldives is a small private island in Baa Atoll with only 26 houses and residences, each with its own pool and butler. The restaurants keep no opening or closing times and there is no dress code, so breakfast at dinner time is perfectly normal.
It is a quiet, barefoot island rather than a busy resort. The resort flies its own eight-seat seaplane from Velana, about half an hour each way, and Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays gather in season, is a short boat ride away.
What you pay

The house decides most of the price. The Ocean Houses stand over the lagoon and the Beach Houses sit in gardens a few steps from the sea, both with one bedroom, a living room and a private pool. The Residences are larger again, with a temperature-controlled infinity pool.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price we quote: your house, the meal plan you choose, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax. Non-motorised water sports, snorkelling equipment and the daily yoga sessions are complimentary.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone after a lively scene. With 26 houses the island is calm by design, and guests gather mainly for sunset drinks.
Beach purists. The beach is lovely in places, but parts of the shoreline have no sand at all, and the reef entry is over rock in places, so which house you stay in matters.
Late arrivals. The seaplanes fly in daylight only, so land at Velana by 15:30. Later than that means a domestic flight and speedboat, or the resort's yacht.
Before you book
There are five places to eat: Zeytoun for Mediterranean fine dining, Ocaso for an open-air grill on the sand, Thyme for all-day dining on the beach, Naiboli by the pool, and Ananda Gourmet Ayurveda cuisine. Meals can also be laid on a sandbank, a yacht or your own deck. Solasta Spa has three glass-bottomed treatment pavilions over the water, and Young Wonderers keeps children busy.

The Nautilus Maldives is on Thiladhoo Island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, about 126 km from Velana International Airport. Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays gather in season, is about 15 minutes away by boat.
How do I get to The Nautilus Maldives?
The resort's own eight-seat seaplane flies direct from Velana in about 30 minutes, and the scheduled 14-seat Manta Air seaplane takes a little longer and may stop at other resorts. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so land at Velana by 15:30. Later than that, ask us about a 20-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and a 20-minute speedboat, or the resort's yacht, about two and a half hours, weather permitting.
How many houses are there?
There are 26 in all, each with a living room, a private pool and a butler. Nine Beach Houses sit in gardens by the beach and eight Ocean Houses stand over the lagoon. Above them are the Ocean and Beach Residences, a two-bedroom Beach Residence, The Nautilus Retreat over the water and the three-bedroom Nautilus Mansion. Ask us about those.
What is unscripted dining?
The restaurants at The Nautilus Maldives keep no opening or closing times and there is no dress code, so you eat when and where you like. Zeytoun serves Mediterranean fine dining, Ocaso is an open-air grill on the sand, Thyme is the all-day beach restaurant, Naiboli is the pool lounge, and Ananda Gourmet Ayurveda cuisine is tailored to your dosha.

Manta rays gather at Hanifaru Bay from May to November, with the peak between June and October. The resort's marine team guides trips there, about 15 minutes from The Nautilus Maldives, in step with the bay's park rangers.
Is The Nautilus Maldives good for children?
Yes. Young Wonderers, the children's club at the centre of the island, runs storytelling, nature play and creative workshops, with activities for teenagers too. Cots, high chairs and sand toys are provided for infants.
What wellness facilities are there?
Solasta Spa has three glass-bottomed treatment pavilions over the water, and treatments can also be taken in your house. There are complimentary yoga, fitness and meditation sessions every day in the overwater yoga pavilion, a 24-hour gym and a padel court.
