Sun Siyam Iru Fushi's house reef runs between the main beach and the dive centre, close enough to swim to and shallow enough to enter from the sand. Guests report reef sharks, stingrays and a lot of colourful fish, though turtles are the thing people do not reliably see. The best water is off the Boli bridge by the water villas and The Trio, and behind the breakwater on the west side, so villa position matters more here than on most islands. Conditions turn choppy in the windier months. If snorkelling is the priority, ask for a villa close to the best water; a villa number can be requested, not guaranteed.

Our wonderful anniversary getaway
We had an amazing 5-day stay at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi. Sadly, five days wasn't enough to explore all the activities the resort has to offer.

Our girls loved seeing all the sharks and stingrays passing by. We did manage to get on a boat trip to see the dolphins.

About the resort
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is a big island built for a busy holiday in Noonu Atoll: 221 villas, fifteen places to eat and drink, a bar that never shuts, and clubs for children from three to sixteen. Much of it has just been rebuilt, including the water villas, which now have their own pools.
What you pay
Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay: the villa with breakfast daily, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax, green tax included. It is for two people, or four or six adults in the Retreats, whose extra seaplane seats are already in the figure.
Longer stays spread the seaplane. The fare is the same however long you stay, so every night after the fourth adds less than the first four average.
The green season is the gentler time to go. The same villa and nights come in anything from an eighth to more than a third lower than in the peak season, depending on the villa, and somewhat lower than the early dry-season dates.
Booking well ahead helps. Sixty days before arrival the resort takes fifteen per cent off the villa, or ten per cent at thirty days. It is not in the prices above, and we apply it to your quote when your dates qualify.
Half board, full board and the Premium All-Inclusive can all be added to any villa. We price the one you want into your stay.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa, breakfast daily, the return seaplane for the guests the villa is priced for, and every Maldivian tax including green tax. Up to two children under fifteen stay and eat free when they share your villa.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, lunch, dinner and drinks unless you add a meal plan, seaplane seats for children, Teppanyaki, spa and excursions, the compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone after a small barefoot island. Sun Siyam Iru Fushi has 221 villas and a round-the-clock bar, and it is busy by design.
Toddlers in a water villa. The overwater villas are not recommended for young children because of the layout. Take a beach villa.
Snorkellers who want turtles. The house reef runs between the main beach and the dive centre, and you can swim out to it from the sand. Guests see reef sharks and stingrays, but turtles are not reliable and the water turns choppy in the windier months.
Before you book
Seaplanes fly in daylight only. Land at Velana before 15:30 or your first night is in Malé. Send flight details ten days ahead to hold the seats. Going home, a flight before 09:00 means travelling back the afternoon before.
The festive period is not priced on this page. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve carry compulsory gala dinners and nobody checks out on the last two days of the year. We can still book those dates.
Honeymooners need at least three nights and a marriage certificate dated within the last twelve months. Reflections, the adults-only infinity pool and bar, is for guests sixteen and over.

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is a big, beautifully lush island with a surprisingly varied dining scene, 15 restaurants and bars ranging from Indian and Japanese to French and Italian. I particularly remember The Trio over the water and the excellent Thalgo spa, with its huge treatment menu. The Nemo house reef is another highlight, making this a resort that works equally well for couples and families.

Where is Sun Siyam Iru Fushi?
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is a private island in Noonu Atoll, in the north of the Maldives, 45 minutes from Velana by seaplane. It has 221 villas across eleven categories, from a 123 sq m overwater villa to a three-bedroom retreat. Every villa has a private pool.
How do I get to Sun Siyam Iru Fushi?
Fly into Velana International Airport in Malé and take a 45-minute seaplane. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so you need to land before 15:30 to reach the island the same afternoon. The resort has its own lounge at the seaplane terminal with drinks, light bites and showers, and aims to fly you out within three hours of checking in there.
What is included in the price shown?
The villa for the nights you pick, breakfast daily, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax and service charge. The price is for two people, or four or six adults in the Retreats, whose seaplane seats are already in the figure. Seaplane seats for children are charged. What meal plans are available?
Bed and breakfast is what the price on this page is built on. Half board, full board and the Premium All-Inclusive are all available and we price them into your quote. Premium All-Inclusive adds premium spirits, wines and champagne by the glass across the outlets and the 24-hour Waters Edge bar. Teppanyaki sits outside every plan and Islander's Grill is half price rather than included.

Is Sun Siyam Iru Fushi good for families?
Yes. Up to two children under fifteen stay, eat and play free when they share your villa, though their seaplane seats are charged. Koamas Kidz Club takes ages three to eleven, there is a separate Teens Club for twelve to sixteen, and the main pool has its own children's area. The water villas are not recommended for young children because of the layout.
Does it work for couples if families are there too?
It is designed that way. There is an adults-only infinity pool with its own bar, Reflections, for guests sixteen and over, plus overwater French and Italian restaurants and a champagne lounge. Honeymooners need a minimum of three nights and a marriage certificate dated within the past twelve months at check-in.
What has been renovated recently?
The Water Villas were rebuilt inside and given pools and hammock decks, the Horizon and Sunset Horizon Water Villas gained L-shaped pools and sunken seating areas, thirty-four more beach villas were fitted with private pools, and the Deluxe Beach Villa interiors were reworked. Flavours and Bamboo were redesigned and the all-inclusive plan was upgraded to Premium.
Can we book Christmas or New Year?
Not from the prices on this page. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi carry compulsory gala dinners, regular menus and in-villa dining are withdrawn on those nights, and nobody checks out on the last two days of the year. Ask us and we will price those dates individually.
