House reef

Worth choosing the resort for. One or two caveats on entry point or current.
A proper reef with an unusual amount of shark traffic: blacktips and whitetips on most swims, some greys, plus turtles, eagle rays, moray eels and batfish. You get in at the jetty behind the restaurant, where steps put you at the reef edge, or at one of three shore entries. The coral was badly bleached and is described as recovering rather than intact, so come for the fish and the sharks. Gear is free from reception and at least one guest reports a free guided snorkel included. Use the marked entries rather than walking on the coral.
Getting there
Land at Velana after 15:15 and the last seaplane of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
