You walk in off the beach and snorkel without needing a boat, which is the appeal, and guests report blacktip reef sharks, stingrays and good variety of reef fish. What you are snorkelling is a lagoon enclosed by breakwaters rather than an open reef, so it is a contained swim rather than a circuit. Ten minutes from the airport means constant boat traffic and some noise. How the coral is holding up now is the open question here. If the reef is the reason you are going, ask about its current state before you book.

About the resort
Niva Kurumba Maldives is ten minutes from Velana airport by the resort's own speedboat. The crossing is short enough to barely register at either end of the trip.
It was the country's first resort, and it still feels like a small village: a long list of restaurants and bars, a spa, tennis, water sports and children's activities on one green island. Every room and villa stands on the island itself, and several have their own pool.
What you pay
Every price on this page is for two adults sharing, for three or four nights, with the return speedboat and every Maldivian tax included. Pick your dates above and the panel shows the whole stay.
Stays before the festive season are priced well below the same villa after New Year. Four meal plans are sold on the earlier dates and three on the later ones. The festive weeks carry compulsory gala dinners and are not priced on this page. Two-bedroom residences and other stay lengths are priced on request.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa, the meal plan you pick, the return speedboat for two, the green tax and every other Maldivian tax.
Half board and all inclusive meals are served in Vihamanaa, the main restaurant. All inclusive adds lunch, dinner and drinks with meals, plus drinks at Athiri, Kandu and Fez Bar. All inclusive plus is the resort's Dine Around plan: lunch and dinner in any open restaurant, with drinks, for stays of three nights or more. Beach Villa, Deluxe Pool Villa and Family Villa guests take a premium breakfast at Thila.
Not in the price: the minibar, premium drinks brands, room service, your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone after an empty island. Niva Kurumba Maldives is lively and close to the capital, so you will hear boats and planes. Snorkellers who choose a resort for its reef should look further out: what you swim here is a lagoon held in by breakwaters rather than an open reef. There are no overwater villas.
Before you book
Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at noon, and your meal plan runs the same hours. Only one meal plan can be chosen for the whole stay. Honeymooners travelling within six months of the wedding receive wine, a turndown and a spa credit, and champagne on all inclusive plus. Bring the wedding certificate.
Every villa except the Superior Room takes two adults and two children under eighteen, and the Family Villa takes three children. Tell us the ages of everyone travelling and we will price the whole family.
