Worth choosing the resort for. One or two caveats on entry point or current.
A long island with two quite different sides, and only one of them is for snorkelling. The reef runs along the south, where the water villas with jacuzzi sit, and there is good entry from the main jetty as well. Blacktip reef sharks, rays, turtles and moray eels are all regularly reported. The north and west is the famous sandbank and lagoon, which is beautiful and has nothing to snorkel. Coral is depleted, so this is a fish island rather than a coral one, and restoration work is under way. Book the wrong side and you will be disappointed.
Getting there
Land at Velana after 15:30 and the last speedboat of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
