You will enjoy it. You would not cross an atoll for it.
Honest answer: guests disagree about this one. Some report sharks, turtles, octopus and clownfish straight off the beach or the villa, and others who know the Maldives say there is no reef here to speak of. What reconciles them is the engineering. The island is shaped by breakwaters into calm enclosed lagoons with small coral patches, which is reassuring for nervous swimmers and children and disappointing if you wanted a reef to circle. Two guided house reef snorkels are complimentary, including a beginner lesson, and gear is free for the stay. Turtle trips by dhoni are charged.
Getting there
Land at Velana after 16:30 and the last seaplane of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
