Exceptional
Among the healthiest reefs on this site, and guests who have snorkelled a dozen islands say so. Live table and staghorn coral runs around the island, with reef sharks on most swims, green turtles most days, stingrays in the shallows, eagle rays, octopus, lobsters and moray eels. Returning guests rate the stretch from the arrival jetty to the water sports jetty for turtles and colourful coral. From a water villa you drop straight in. Erosion is visible on the sunset side, with sandbags in a couple of places, and that side also sits in more current. Havodda is a long way south, about an hour by domestic flight plus a speedboat. Ask how far your beach villa sits from the coral before you book.

About the resort
NH Collection Maldives Havodda Resort sits in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the far south, and its house reef is the reason to make the journey. Live coral rings the island, with reef sharks on most swims and green turtles most days.
Getting here is a domestic flight from Malé and a short speedboat, so this is a resort for a longer stay. Five nights is the shortest stay priced on this page, and seven is better value.
What you pay
Every price on this page is for two adults sharing, for five or seven nights, with breakfast and dinner daily, the return domestic flight and speedboat, and every Maldivian tax, green tax included. Seven nights comes to only about a quarter more than five.
The green season is the cheap window, about a quarter below the dry peak months for the same villa. In the green season a villa with its own pool comes to only about a tenth more than a plain beach villa, so that is the time to take the pool.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa, buffet breakfast and a themed buffet dinner at REEF every day, or dinner at Surf on Tuesdays and Saturdays with a credit towards the menu, the return domestic flight and speedboat, and all Maldivian taxes.
Not in the price: lunch; every drink at dinner, including water, coffee and tea; the minibar; diving, excursions and the spa; the compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners; your international flights; travel insurance; Indian TCS; and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone on a short trip should look nearer Malé. The domestic flight runs to the airline's schedule, sometimes with a stop on the way, and the times are only confirmed the evening before you fly.
If you want an all-inclusive holiday without counting drinks, half board here means paying for every drink, including water at dinner. Ask us to price a drinks plan with your dates. The sunset side of the island is eroding and carries sandbags in a couple of places, which some guests notice.
Before you book
The domestic flight allows 20 kg of checked luggage and 5 kg of hand luggage each, well below most international airlines. Send us your international flight times before you book and we will check the connection both ways.
Parents with young children in an overwater villa sign a safety waiver on arrival. The festive weeks carry a longer minimum stay and compulsory gala dinners, so we price those on request. Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at noon.
