Milaidhoo Maldives

An outstanding house reef and a clear turquoise lagoon on the same island. Almost everywhere in the Maldives makes you pick one. The drop-off holds very large schools, and the reef takes over an hour to swim round.

What you pay

The green season is the cheap window. It is also the manta window, so the saving and the reason to come line up.

The water villa is the one to take, and it is the cheaper of the two. 245 m² with a 42 m² pool, among the largest on a one-bedroom villa anywhere in the Maldives, and its steps go down onto the reef. The beach villa is bigger at 290 m² but its pool is smaller and you swim from the sand.

Two Beach Pool Residences at 490 m² and one two-bedroom Ocean Residence at 564 m² are priced on request. Ask us.

What’s included, and what isn’t

In the price: the villa and its pool, return transfers for two, breakfast, dinner at Ocean Restaurant, a 24-hour island host, wifi, one group excursion, a spa credit, snorkelling gear for the stay, yoga most mornings, and every Maldivian tax.

Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, lunch, every drink, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.

Half board is dinner at one restaurant plus a credit everywhere else. Eat at the Shoreline Grill or Ba’theli instead and you draw a food-only credit per adult per night, then settle whatever sits above it.

Drinks are outside half board entirely. The Gourmet Plan is the only tier that includes anything to drink, and on a longer stay with wine it is often the cheaper answer. Ask us to run both.

Who this isn’t for

Families with young children. Milaidhoo takes nobody under eight, and there is no children’s club. It runs a personalised programme called Junior Islanders instead.

A family of four wanting one villa. Three guests is the ceiling in every category except the single two-bedroom Ocean Residence, which takes six.

Three-night honeymoons. The champagne breakfast on your deck, the sandbank picnic, the private dhoni sunset cruise and the dinner on the beach all need four nights. On three you get none of them. Add the night and we will attach them.

Before you book

Two ways in, and the second one matters. The 35-minute seaplane lands in daylight only, by 15:30. Land later and Milaidhoo moves you onto a 15-minute flight to Dharavandhoo plus a 15-minute boat, at the same rate rather than a premium, which runs to 16:20. Luggage is 25 kg checked plus 5 kg cabin.

Hanifaru Bay runs May to November. Milaidhoo takes three guided trips a week in season with its own marine biologist. Snorkelling only, no diving, and sightings turn on tide, moon and current, so nobody can promise them.

Honeymoon extras need a marriage certificate less than twelve months old, and honeymoon and babymoon benefits do not combine. Ba’theli serves family-style to share, so ignore anything about a six-course tasting menu.
