Thin
There is no reef off this island. What surrounds Medhufushi Island Resort is a wide, shallow, sandy lagoon, lovely to walk into and thin on coral, with stingrays, the odd green turtle and a nightly baby shark feed off the jetty. Everything worth snorkelling is reached by boat, and one snorkelling trip per stay is included, gear not. Meemu is a long way from Malé, so a day lost to weather is not easily made up. Come for the quiet and the diving, not the house reef.

Land at Velana after 16:00 and the last speedboat of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.

About the resort
Medhufushi Island Resort is one of only two resorts in Meemu Atoll: a long, thin island of palms and white sand with a wide, shallow lagoon on every side and a row of water villas out over it.
It is a quiet island rather than a showy one, built for couples and families who want space, a good buffet and very little to organise. The kitchen cooks a wide range of Indian food, vegetarian included, and Jain meals are made on request.
What you pay
Every price on this page is for two adults sharing a villa for four nights, with the return speedboat from Malé and every Maldivian tax already in. Pick your dates, a meal plan and a villa above and the price panel shows the exact figure.
The Semi-detached Beach Villa and the Beach Villa sit only a few thousand rupees apart for four nights. The Water Villa is a bigger step, and the gap widens in the peak season. The Two-Bedroom Beach Villa Suite is priced here for two adults; tell us who else is coming and we will price the family.
Four nights is the stay priced on this page. The resort takes stays from three nights, so a shorter or longer stay, a split between a beach and a water villa, and any stay over New Year's Eve, which carries a compulsory gala supplement, are priced on request. The prices are for Indian and other Asian and Middle Eastern passport holders, and the resort checks the passport at check-in.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa, buffet meals in the main restaurant on the plan you pick, the shared return speedboat, a meet and greet at Velana, the lounge at the airport, wifi, one snorkelling trip per stay and every Maldivian tax.
Half board is breakfast and dinner, full board adds lunch, and all inclusive adds beer, house wine, pouring spirits and selected cocktails by the glass from 10:00 to midnight, minibar soft drinks and a dolphin trip.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, snorkelling gear, à la carte dinners, the spa, a domestic flight or seaplane instead of the speedboat, and anything not named above.
Stay three nights or more with at least two in a Water Villa and the resort adds a spa credit, an à la carte restaurant credit, tea and coffee with meals and a bottle of wine on arrival. Honeymooners get a cake, wine and a decorated bed.
Who this isn't for
Snorkellers who want a reef off the beach. There isn't one, and the good coral is reached by boat.
Anyone who wants a short, private transfer. The speedboat takes about two and a half hours, carries other passengers and may stop on the way. The resort does not advise it for small children, older guests or anyone who gets seasick, so for them we price the domestic flight or seaplane instead.
Before you book
Send us your flights before you buy them. The three speedboats leave Velana at 10:00, 13:30 and 17:00, and you need to have landed by 08:45, 12:15 and 16:00 respectively. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a landing after 15:00 means a night in Malé on that routing. The domestic flight to Meemu leaves at 11:45 and 18:00, and wants you on the ground two and a half hours earlier.
Book at least three days ahead so the transfer can be arranged. Check-in is 14:00 and check-out is noon.
