What a good find!
We moved to JA Manafaru after spending two weeks at Hideaway. As regular visitors to the Maldives—this being our 37th island—we had heard so much about it and are not sure why we never chose it before. Unexpectedly, it turned out to be an excellent experience and one of the best we have had in the Maldives. The service and hospitality were outstanding. The General Manager, Roberto, was constantly present and available, regularly communicating with guests during meals. The Head Chef was also amazing and always visible around the resort. For families, the Kids Club is exceptional. The highlights for my daughter were the resident rabbits in what they call the petting zoo, where children get to feed and groom them—an amazing idea. The food quality across the resort is superb. The island itself is beautiful, immaculately maintained, and offers a true barefoot experience where every corner is stunning. Good quality bikes are provided, though we preferred to walk most of the time. The beaches are fantastic with a deep lagoon. Keep in mind that house reef coral is lacking, so while you can see plenty of fish, proper snorkelling requires taking excursions. We stayed for one week and did not have time to dive, but the dive center team looked very professional and enthusiastic. Overall, it is a fantastic destination for a deeply relaxing vacation. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful Island, Wonderful Team
An outstanding trip and an outstanding resort. A huge thank you to the entire team - from the moment we stepped off the plane until check-in, we were surrounded by genuine care and attention. A very special thanks to Nargiz - she explained everything, was always happy to help, and surprised us with thoughtful gifts and many little touches that made our stay even more memorable. A beautiful, lush tropical island with an amazing house reef. We were lucky enough to see turtles, stingrays, and countless colorful fish. The dining experience was excellent throughout our stay, with the Italian restaurant by the pool being a particular highlight.

Dreamy island stay!
We enjoyed our week on the island very much. There are many activities and we especially enjoyed the snorkelling and diving. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating; we would like to thank our "butler" Mohamed, the Dive Sports people Thiham and Anna, and our housekeeper Achu, who made our stay sweeter. The beach villas were great and actually right on the beach; there is much to discover and we were always able to let off steam with sports. The restaurants did not disappoint us and we were always full, even if the food was generally a bit expensive. Which might have been because we "only" booked bed and breakfast. The weather was a bit changeable but it never bothered us when it rained briefly, since it is always nice and warm anyway. But the sun shone most days. All in all, we were very satisfied and a little sad when we had to leave again. Until next time!

Keen attention to all dietary restrictions of our son
Despite the weather being not ideal we had a great time! We highly appreciate Chef Mousa's attention to our son's dietary restrictions and allergies. Not only did he personally came at each meal to know what he liked but also took the effort of creating new gluten, Dairy and egg free recipes just for him. We are truly grateful to his entire team 🙏🏽 ….. Also appreciate the our host Samantha, Rahul and the Spa team and Anna and the water sports team.

You will enjoy it. You would not cross an atoll for it.
There are two reefs reachable from the jetties, and the fish life is real: turtles, sharks, rays, and night snorkelling that guests remember. The coral is not. Repeat Maldives travellers consistently report it as thin, and the lagoon is wide enough that the drop-off is a long way from the beach and rough on the infinity pool side. Budget for excursions if snorkelling is why you are going. Come for the space, the beaches and the food.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is JA Manafaru? +
On its own island in Haa Alifu Atoll, in the Upper North Province — about as far north as Maldivian resorts go. The island is natural rather than landscaped: ancient banyans, jungle, and a lagoon that circles the whole of it.
How do I get there? +
Four routes. A seaplane direct from Velana to the resort jetty, 70 minutes. A domestic flight to Hoarafushi, 55 minutes, then a 10-minute speedboat. A domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo, 50 minutes, then a 40-minute speedboat. Or, if your international flight lands at Hanimaadhoo, a 40-minute speedboat with no Malé transit at all. Return transfers for two are included in the rate.
What does the rate include? +
Accommodation for two, return transfers for two, VIP lounge access at Malé, service charge and GST, green tax, a private pool with every villa, 24-hour Thakuru butler service, Wi-Fi throughout, the kids club and Cool Zone, fitness club and yoga, tennis, futsal and badminton courts, a dedicated bicycle, snorkelling equipment and non-motorised watersports.
What meal plan is it? +
Half board on a dine-around basis: breakfast and dinner at whichever restaurant is operating, rather than one fixed venue. Dinner is three courses — a starter, a main and a dessert per paying guest — or the weekly theme night buffet. Water, tea and coffee are included at mealtimes.
What is not included? +
Lunch, the spa, The Cellar, the Kuri treehouse and in-villa dining all sit outside the plan. Some dishes at Ocean Grill carry a supplement. In quieter months some restaurants close, so ask us which venues are operating on your dates.
What villas are available? +
Eighty-four in total: 24 sunrise and 23 sunset water villas at 135 m², 22 beach villas at 200 m², 12 deluxe beach villas at 400 m², and three residences up to 5,800 m². The beach villas are larger than the water villas here, which is the reverse of most resorts.
What is the house reef like? +
The lagoon and coral gardens circle the entire island, and you enter from your own villa or the beach. Snorkel gear is included for the stay. The PADI dive centre works 33 named sites, including Vagaaru Garden for mantas and Farukolhu Kandu for nurse sharks. Manta diving is seasonal.
Is it suitable for families? +
Yes. There is the Cool Zone kids club, a teens arcade, tennis, futsal, beach volleyball, a cinema and a nature trail. Beach and water villas sleep two adults, one child and one infant; the deluxe beach villas take two children.
