The drop-off sits about two metres from the beach at the Meeru Bar, which is as close as this gets anywhere in the Maldives, and guests who have snorkelled widely say exactly that. Blacktips both adult and young, eagle rays, stingrays, green turtles, moray eels and the occasional manta are all reported from the shore, over coral described as healthy. One piece of advice that will save you money: the water villas are the wrong category for snorkelling here, shallow and rocky with dead coral below. Book a beach villa near Meeru instead. The island is large, so expect a walk.

Land at Velana after 13:30 and the last seaplane of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
The return seaplane is shared and is in the price for two. The resort runs two shared flights a day, leaving Malé at about 11:00 and 15:30, and check-in closes an hour before each. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a landing after about 13:30 means a night in Malé first. About the resort
Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa sits in Haa Alifu, the northernmost atoll in the Maldives, and its house reef drops away barely two metres off the beach by the Meeru Bar. Every price on this page includes the return seaplane from Malé for two.
It is a large island with a choice of beach and water villas, and you can split four nights between the two. That split is also the cheapest way to stay.
What you pay
Every price is for two adults and four nights, with the shared seaplane, every Maldivian tax and the green tax already in. Pick your dates and a villa above. A full four nights in the Deluxe Water Villa adds only a little to the split stays.
The two-bedroom villas are priced here for two adults. Tell us who else is coming and we will price the stay for everyone. On the earliest dates priced here, the beach half of the Sunset Beach Villa split is upgraded to a Beach Residence with Plunge Pool at no extra charge.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: four nights in the villa you pick and the return shared seaplane for two. Half board gives you breakfast and dinner; full board adds lunch. All inclusive adds wine, spirits, cocktails, beer, soft drinks, juices, tea and coffee from 10:00 to 23:00 at Matheefaru, Meeru Bar, Sunset Pool Café and Samsara.
Also in: one Indian dinner at Samsara on full board and all inclusive, a floating breakfast for two, one excursion (a guided house reef snorkel or a sunset dolphin cruise), a romantic table set up on Meeru beach once, a US$50 spa voucher for each adult, every Maldivian tax and the green tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, drinks on half board and full board, spa treatments beyond the voucher, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone short of time. The seaplane north is a long one, and on a four-night stay you feel it. If you want to snorkel straight off your deck, the water villas are the wrong choice here: the water beneath them is shallow and rocky. Book a beach villa near the Meeru Bar instead. The island is large, so expect a walk to dinner.
