Fine
The jetty is the place. Guests swim with blacktip and lemon sharks there and report stingrays, eagle rays and dense fish, much of it visible from the dock without getting in. Beyond that the picture is thinner: the main reef is a long swim out and weather dependent, snorkelling off the pier itself has been called poor, and guests describe conditions as average and the reef as minimal. Part of the shoreline is closed off by the overwater villas. This is Baa, so the real draw is manta season at Hanifaru Bay, which is a boat trip rather than anything off your steps.

About the resort
Dhigufaru Island Resort takes its name from the Dhivehi for "a long reef", but the island's own reef is not why we would send you. It sits in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the house reef scores three out of five on our rating: the jetty is lively, with reef sharks and rays, but the main reef is a long swim out and depends on the weather. The water that matters here is Hanifaru Bay in manta season, and that is a boat trip.
It is a mid-sized island of 83 villas, on the beach and over the water, with a kids' club, an all-day buffet restaurant and two à la carte rooms, Athiri Grill and Muraka. The holiday is the jetty, a manta trip in season and very little noise. That is the point.
What you pay
Pick your dates, a villa and a meal plan, and the price is three nights for two adults: the villa, the meal plan, the return transfer and every tax, green tax included. Longer stays are priced on request. The transfer is paid once, so each extra night adds less than the average night here.
The green season is the cheaper window, and it falls in the manta months. A Sunrise Beach Villa on bed and breakfast runs about a fifth below the high season, and the two high seasons either side of it are priced the same.
Over the water, the Sunrise Water Villa runs about a third above the Sunrise Beach Villa on the same green-season dates.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two adults for three nights, the meal plan you pick (bed and breakfast, half board, full board or all inclusive), the return seaplane or domestic flight and speedboat, green tax and every Maldivian tax.

Who this isn't for
Anyone who wants a lively island, or to snorkel straight off their villa. This is a quiet resort, the main reef is a long swim out, and the best water here is a boat ride away in manta season.

Before you book
Your landing time picks the route. Land at Velana by 15:30 and you take the 40-minute seaplane. Land by 16:20 and you take the evening domestic flight to Dharavandhoo, then a speedboat, about 50 minutes in all. Both are in the price. Landing later than that, talk to us before you book the flight.

The festive fortnight is not priced on this page. Four nights is the minimum, seven over the New Year week, and two gala dinners are compulsory, at US$299 and US$399 per adult. We can still book it.

What is the best time to visit Dhigufaru Island Resort?
The Maldives is warm all year, with water around 28 to 30°C. The dry months, roughly November to April, bring the calmest seas and clearest skies. Baa Atoll's manta and whale shark sightings peak between May and November, which overlaps the cheaper green-season band on this page. Some dates are not priced on this page, so ask us for a quote.

A day here
Baa Atoll sets the shape of your day here more than the island's own reef does. Baa is a UNESCO biosphere reserve with Hanifaru Bay's mantas in season, while Dhigufaru's house reef is a modest one with a lively jetty.

Day 1, arriving
Two routes, and the second is more useful than most guests realise. A seaplane of around forty minutes, daylight only, with a 15:30 cut-off at Velana. Or a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo plus a speedboat, about fifty minutes, which runs as an evening service and accepts arrivals as late as 16:20. Both are the same price, so which one you get depends entirely on when your flight lands rather than on what you pay. Send us your times and we will tell you which one you are on before you book.
Do these three things when you land.
- Ask where the reef drops off and whether the water is calm enough that day. The main reef is a long swim out, and the jetty is the easy place to start.
- Check the season if Hanifaru Bay matters to you. It is the reason many guests choose Baa, and it does not run all year.
- Read what your meal plan covers before the first dinner rather than after it.
Days 2 to 3, your full days

- A calm, quiet island. For children who want to see reef, a boat snorkel will show them more than the beach will.
Afternoons
Baa Atoll gives this island more to do on the water than most, and Hanifaru Bay is the headline in season. The excursion schedule, prices and minimum numbers are set by the resort, and the manta trips in particular run to conditions rather than to a fixed timetable. Tell us what you want to do and we will price it against your dates.
Evenings
Bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive are all sold. Be careful with the all-inclusive here: it rates 2 out of 5 on our all-inclusive ratings, so on this island the plan is worth reading rather than assuming. The rate already carries service charge and GST.
Day 4, leaving
The seaplane is daylight only, so an early flight home may push you onto the domestic route or lose you a night. The Dharavandhoo option is the more forgiving of the two at both ends.
Who this island's day does not suit
Anyone who wants a large island with a lot going on, or anyone choosing a resort to snorkel straight off the villa. The house reef here is modest. Baa's mantas are the water that matters, and they are a boat trip.
What you will still pay
Diving is the main one, and in Baa that is where the money goes rather than on food. Then the spa, the excursions, and whatever your meal plan does not cover, which on the all-inclusive here is more than the name suggests.
