Staying on a local island

Bliss Dhigurah stands on an island where Maldivians live and work, so the island's rules apply to everyone staying there.

No alcohol. It is not sold or served anywhere on an inhabited island. Swimwear on the tourist beach. In the village, cover shoulders and knees. Friday is the day off. Shops close for prayers and fewer boats run, so check your transfer times if you arrive or leave on a Friday.

Ask us about any of this before you book. We would rather you knew now than on the jetty.

About the guest house

Bliss Dhigurah is a 19-room boutique hotel on Dhigurah, a long, narrow local island in South Ari Atoll. Whale sharks are seen off the island all year round, and the island ends in one of the longest sandbanks in the Maldives. The hotel has its own restaurant, Hermit's, and jacuzzis on the roof.

It suits couples, snorkellers and divers who want a well-run small hotel in the best whale shark water in the country, and families who need more than one bed.

What you pay

We price Bliss Dhigurah on request. Send us your dates and who is travelling, and we will come back with one figure for the room, your meals and the transfer from Velana.

There are five room types. The Compact Room (18 m²) and the Deluxe Room (about 20 m²) each sleep two, with a queen bed, a balcony and a hammock. The Suite (38 m²) has a king bed, a bathtub, a large balcony and a sofa bed for a third guest.

For families there are the Family Room, two connecting rooms of 44 m² in all with their own bathrooms, sleeping four, and the four Lofts by Bliss on the ground floor. Each Loft is over 33 m², with a king bed below, two or three single beds above and a private garden with a hammock.

What's included, and what isn't

In the price: your room, the meals you pick, the transfer we arrange from Velana, and every Maldivian tax.

Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, whale shark trips, diving and other excursions, and anything not named above.

Who this isn't for

Anyone who wants a drink. Dhigurah is an inhabited island and no alcohol is served on it.

Anyone in a hurry. The public speedboat takes about two hours, and the faster routes cost more.

Before you book

There are three ways to reach Dhigurah. The public speedboat leaves Malé at 11:00 and 16:00 (on Fridays at 10:00 and 16:15) and comes back at 07:00 and 13:00; it takes about two hours in good weather. A domestic flight of about 20 minutes, then a short taxi and a 20-minute speedboat, is quicker. A seaplane of about 25 minutes, then a five-minute boat, is quickest. Flight and seaplane times change daily, so we match them to when you land.

Rooms have air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, a rain shower, a mini fridge, a kettle, a flat-screen TV, a desk, a hair dryer and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has a small gym, a kids' corner, a gift shop, buggy hire, laundry and a PADI dive centre partner, and arranges snorkel trips, sandbank picnics, fishing and water sports.

Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00.

Send us your dates, who is travelling and when you land. We will come back within 24 hours with the right room, the transfer that fits your flight and one price for the stay.

Tell us your dates and who is travelling

We will price two or three rooms with the shared speedboat and every tax included, and we can quote any dates outside the ones above. We reply within 24 hours.
