Exceptional
One of the genuinely great reefs, and unusually it works for both ends of the confidence scale. A sea wall about fifty feet out makes a calm protected zone with coral patches and plenty of fish inside it; swim through the gaps and you are on the drop-off with turtles, blacktips and whitetips. The eastern side is the better snorkelling side and 14 of the Deluxe Beach Villas sit there, but the category is split across both sides, so it can be requested but not guaranteed. Wear something on your feet inside the wall, there is broken coral.

About the resort
The house reef is the reason to book Baros Maldives over its neighbours. A sea wall keeps the shallows calm enough for a nervous swimmer or an eight-year-old, and a few metres out there are turtles and reef sharks.
Three nights in a Deluxe Beach Villa on half board comes as one figure, all in from Malé. The resort speedboat takes 25 minutes and runs at any hour. Children have to be at least eight years old to stay.
What you pay
Pick a villa and a package above. The figure is the whole stay for two adults: the villa, the meal plan, the return resort speedboat and every Maldivian tax. Three nights minimum, and the split stays are two nights in each of two villas, so four.
The seasonal gap on this rate is unusually wide. The entry villa is materially cheaper in the green season than at the height of the dry one, so flexible dates are worth real money here.
Full board is close to a wash. Take it only if you will sit down to lunch every day, at Lime Restaurant or, for something lighter, at Sails Bar.
Half board carries the better perk: 30 per cent off the food bill at the Lighthouse and Cayenne, plus a floating or in-villa breakfast and a sunset cruise for two. Full board drops the discount.
What’s included, and what isn’t
In the price: the villa, your meal plan, the return resort speedboat for two, and every Maldivian tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, drinks, lunch on half board, the spa, excursions, diving, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
The Lighthouse dinner needs four nights and the dine-around plan. One dinner per four-night stay. It is not an inclusion of plain half board, where the Lighthouse is à la carte with the food discount. On three nights you cannot have it at all.
Honeymoon benefits start at three nights, so length is not the constraint. The villa can be: the celebration extras attach to the pool villas, suites and residences rather than the entry categories. Tell us you are celebrating and we will name what your villa carries.
Who this isn’t for
Families with young children. Baros sets a minimum age of eight. There is no children’s club either. Tell us if you have younger ones and we will point you somewhere built for them.
Anyone who wants a large resort. Baros Maldives is a small, round coral island with three restaurants and two bars.
Before you book
Wear something on your feet in the shallows. There is broken coral, and the sea beyond the gaps gets rough, so ask at the marine centre before you swim out.
Independent snorkelling runs sunrise to sunset only. After dark it is a guided tour and the resort runs one daily. Fins and masks are complimentary.
Guests are encouraged to send flight details 72 hours before arrival so the boat is ready. There is no arrival cut-off, so a midnight landing still reaches the island.

Where is Baros Maldives located?
Baros Maldives is a private island resort situated in the North Malé Atoll, Republic of Maldives. The resort's own speedboat takes about 25 minutes from Velana International Airport (MLE), runs at any hour of the day or night, and goes straight to the island, so there is no seaplane to wait for.
How do I get to Baros Maldives?

Baros Maldives has three restaurants and two bars. Lime Restaurant, on the lagoon, serves international and Maldivian food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cayenne Grill, a thatched pavilion over the lagoon, is the dinner grill, with a teppanyaki menu. The Lighthouse Restaurant is the over-water signature room. Sails Bar sits among the palms for light lunches and cocktails, and the Lighthouse Lounge is the sundowner deck. Piano Deck, sandbank and island dinners are set up on request.
What is included in a stay at Baros?
A standard stay includes accommodation, daily housekeeping, welcome drinks on arrival, airport meet-and-greet, and speedboat transfers. Half board (breakfast and dinner) and full board are the meal plans Baros Maldives sells. There is no all-inclusive. Inclusions vary by package, so ask us what yours carries.
Does Baros have a dive centre?
Yes. Baros Maldives has a PADI Five Star Gold Palm dive centre, one of the very first dive centres in the Maldives, with more than 20 dive sites around the island. A resident marine biologist runs guided snorkels, and the house reef is reached straight from the beach.
What excursions are available at Baros?
Baros Maldives runs sunset cruises, dolphin cruises, fishing trips including big-game fishing, and a sightseeing trip to Malé, as scheduled or private trips. Nooma, the resort's 19.4-metre traditional dhoni (the name means blue flower), offers sunset sailing, snorkelling trips and private dinner cruises for two. The luxury yacht Serenity can be chartered for a half or full day.
Is Baros suitable for honeymooners and couples?
Yes. Baros Maldives is a small, quiet island with no children's club, and it suits couples well. Special honeymoon amenities, Renewal of Vows ceremonies on private sandbanks, candlelit dinners, and the Private Romantic Dinner Cruise aboard Nooma make it ideal for couples and honeymooners.
What spa and wellness facilities does Baros offer?
The Serenity Spa sits among the trees, with four private suites for couples' treatments, each with its own steam bath, and an air-conditioned yoga pavilion. When is the best time to visit Baros Maldives?
Baros Maldives is open all year. The dry northeast monsoon, roughly December to April, brings the calmest seas and the clearest water for diving and snorkelling. The southwest monsoon, roughly May to November, brings more rain and wind and some rougher days on the reef, and the island is quieter.

A day here
There are two reefs here and a wall between them, and knowing which one you are in changes the whole day. Inside the sea wall is calm, shallow and protected. Outside it is the drop-off, with turtles and sharks. Almost everyone can enjoy the first. The second depends on the sea, and the sea here is not always calm.
