Strong
The reef runs along the eastern side and the beach villas there are the ones to ask for, with the drop-off roughly thirty metres out. Between the sand and the reef there is little to see, so treat this as a swim out rather than a step in. Guests report turtles, blacktips, stingrays and squid on most days, several of them from the villa itself. The far southern atolls came through the recent bleaching in much better shape than the central ones, which is a real advantage here. Guided snorkelling trips are charged, and we will confirm what they come to for your dates.

About the resort
Ayada Maldives is in Gaafu Dhaalu, far in the south, yet it is easy to reach off a late flight from India. The domestic flight to Kaadedhdhoo and the speedboat connect from Velana landings as late as 22:20, so an evening arrival still sleeps on the island.
It is a big resort with eight restaurants, a butler for every villa and a reef we rate among the stronger ones we sell. The snorkel, fishing and cruise trips run daily, the dive centre goes out four times a day, and the house reef snorkel is timed around you rather than a rota.
What you pay
Pick a villa and a package and the price is the whole stay for two: three nights, or four on the split stay, with the meal plan you pick, the return domestic flight and speedboat, and every Maldivian tax.
The earliest dates here are the cheaper window. Every line steps up once the resort moves into its high season.
All inclusive is the step to weigh. It adds about an eighth to the half board figure on the same villa and dates. It pays for itself if you drink with lunch and dinner. Light drinkers do better on half board.
The split stay is how we would book it. Two nights on the beach and two over the water, and it is the only package long enough for the honeymoon extras.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two, the meal plan you pick, the return domestic flight and speedboat, a 30-minute massage for two, a sunset cruise, 25 per cent off at the spa, the water sports centre and the Ottoman Lounge, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, drinks on half and full board, excursions, diving, spa treatments beyond the massage, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone who wants to be on the sand within an hour of landing. This is two legs, a flight and a boat, and around two hours door to island. On a three-night trip, an island in North or South Malé Atoll wastes less of it.
Three-night honeymooners. The honeymoon extras need four nights, so only the split stay qualifies.
Anyone expecting everything on all inclusive. The plan sold here has breakfast and dinner at the Magu buffet, lunch at Ocean Breeze or Zero Degree, and US$50 per adult off dinner elsewhere. Drinks are covered at four venues, not all eight. The richer Diamond plan needs seven nights and is not priced on this page.
Before you book
Honeymoon extras, on four nights: sparkling wine on arrival, one in-villa breakfast, and a set dinner for two at Kai or Ocean Breeze.
Book dinners on day one. Six of the eight restaurants need a reservation, and Mizu, the teppanyaki counter, has few seats and closes at 21:00. Your butler books them, and the spa wants a day's notice.
The festive period is not priced on this page, because the resort runs its own festive programme then. We can still book it.

What restaurants are there at Ayada Maldives?
Eight: Magu, the main buffet; Ocean Breeze, over the water; Kai, Far Eastern; Mizu, Japanese teppanyaki; Sea Salt, a beach barbecue; Zero Degree, at the pool; Ile de Joie, a wine and cheese bar; and the Ottoman Lounge, a Turkish café. Only Magu and Zero Degree take walk-ins, so have your butler book the rest on day one. Mizu has few seats and stops serving at 21:00.
What trips and water sports are there at Ayada Maldives?
Four trips run every day: the aquarium snorkel, the three-hour safari snorkel, sunset fishing and a sunset cruise. They are charged, though one sunset cruise is in every price on this page. The house reef snorkel has no fixed schedule and is timed around you. The dive centre goes out four times a day, at 08:30, 10:00, 14:30 and 16:30. The package also takes 25 per cent off at the water sports centre.
Is there a spa at Ayada Maldives?
Yes. AySpa is open 09:00 to 21:00, and treatments are booked through your butler at least a day ahead. Every price on this page includes a 30-minute massage for two and 25 per cent off further treatments at the spa. Book the massage early in the stay so it is not squeezed out at the end.
Is Ayada Maldives good for families?
Yes. On the all inclusive plan the Zuzuu Kids Club is free, as are the tennis court, the football and volleyball grounds, the gym and bicycles for the stay. Ask us for the kids' club hours and ages on your dates. The packages on this page are priced for two adults, so tell us the children's ages and we will price them in.

A day here
Which all-inclusive plan you booked decides your day here more than anything else does. On the upper plan two excursions a head are already paid for. On the entry plan none are, and the excursions are then the whole variable part of the holiday. The upper plan also carries a minimum stay of seven nights, so on a short trip the choice is made for you whatever you are willing to spend.

Worth knowing
We would talk you out of 3 nights here. Two flight legs each way argue against a short stay, and the upper all-inclusive plan cannot be booked at all under seven nights.
Day 1, arriving
A domestic flight south to Kaadedhdhoo and then a speedboat. Allow around two hours door to island, and in practice it is often less, because the timing depends on the flight rather than the boat. The useful part is how late it runs: the connection holds for a Velana landing as late as the evening, which is unusual for the far south and much later than any seaplane island. An evening arrival from India still puts you on the island the same night.
Do these three things when you land.
- Book your restaurants through your butler on the first day. Six of the eight need a dinner reservation and only the buffet and the pool bar take walk-ins.
- If you are on the upper plan, choose your two included excursions early rather than at the end.
- Ask for the house reef snorkel to be set at a time that suits you. There is no fixed schedule for it here, which is unusual and worth using.
Days 2 to 3, your full days
Mornings
We rate the reef in the upper band, and the resort handles it differently from most: there is no rota for house reef snorkelling at all, and the time is arranged around the guest rather than the other way round. If that is why you came, say so at check-in and have it set for the mornings you want.
- Divers
- Four departures a day, at 08:30, 10:00, 14:30 and 16:30. That is an unusually frequent dive schedule, and it means a dive fits around the rest of the day rather than dictating it.
- Anyone who wants the reef without a tank
- The aquarium snorkel is short and early enough to leave the day intact, and the longer safari snorkel runs three hours through the afternoon. Both go every day, so no day is the wrong day.
- Families
- The kids club, the tennis court, the yoga studio, football and volleyball grounds, the gym and the bicycles are all inside both plans. The island is large enough that a bike is worth having.
Afternoons
Every trip here runs daily, which is not true of most islands and is the quiet advantage of the place. Elsewhere the day you arrive decides which animal you can see. Here it decides nothing, so a three or four night stay loses nothing to the calendar. The aquarium snorkel goes at 14:30 and takes an hour and a half. The safari snorkel runs two till five. One thing to weigh: excursions are shared, and the larger boat carries up to thirty six guests while the fishing boat takes thirteen or fourteen. A trip with thirty five other people on board is a different afternoon from one with twelve, so ask which boat yours uses when you book.
Evenings
Sunset fishing leaves at 17:30 and the sunset cruise at 18:30, both around two hours. Then dinner across eight outlets, and the reservation rule is the thing that goes wrong most often. Only the main buffet and the poolside bar take walk-ins. The over-water restaurant, the far-eastern room, the teppanyaki counter, the beach barbecue, the wine and cheese bar and the Turkish lounge all want booking, and the teppanyaki counter is the pinch point because it has limited seating and stops serving an hour before everything else. Your butler books all of it, so use them on day one rather than day three.
Day 4, leaving
Work backwards from the domestic flight rather than from a check-out time, and reconfirm the connection the evening before. The southern routing is reliable but it is two legs, not one.
Who this island's day does not suit
Anyone on a three or four night trip who wants the upper plan, because they will not be sold it. Anyone who wants to be near Male, since this is the far south and the journey is a flight plus a boat. And anyone who books an all-inclusive expecting the excursions to come with it, unless they are on the plan that says so.
