The last speedboat of the day leaves at 16:00. Allow an hour to clear the airport, so land well before then or plan a night in Malé before you reach the island.
A shared speedboat on a timetable, not a private boat. It leaves Velana at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00 (09:00 and 17:00 only on Fridays), with a late boat at 21:45 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Staying on a local island
Avyanna Gulhi Beach Hotel stands on an island where Maldivians live and work, so the island's rules apply to everyone staying there.
No alcohol. It is not sold or served anywhere on an inhabited island. Swimwear on the tourist beach. In the village, cover shoulders and knees. Friday is the day off. Shops close for prayers and fewer boats run, so check your transfer times if you arrive or leave on a Friday.

About the hotel
Avyanna Gulhi Beach Hotel is on Gulhi, a small local island next to Maafushi and noticeably quieter than it. Its four room types face either the sunrise, the sunset or the island. It suits couples who want a local island without the crowds. Every price includes the room, breakfast or half board, the return shared speedboat and every tax, green tax included.
What this actually costs
The Double Room with Island View is the cheapest. The Sunset Twin with a balcony costs a little more, and the Sunrise Double with a sea view and balcony about a tenth more than the island-view room. The Family Deluxe Sea View sleeps three and costs about a third more.
Half board adds dinner and puts about a quarter on a three-night stay. Gulhi has fewer cafés than Maafushi, so half board earns its place here.
October is by far the cheapest window. From November the same room costs close to a third more, and the price holds at that level to the end of April.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants nightlife or a drink. Gulhi is an inhabited island and no alcohol is served on it.
Christmas and New Year are not on the dropdown; they carry compulsory gala dinners and we price them separately.

The shared speedboat takes 25 to 30 minutes. It leaves Velana at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00, at 09:00 and 17:00 only on Fridays, with a late boat at 21:45 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Land by about 16:00 on other days.
The speedboat fare can rise with fuel prices; we confirm it when we quote.
