The last speedboat of the day leaves at 21:45. Allow an hour to clear the airport, so land well before then or plan a night in Malé before you reach the island.

Staying on a local island

Arrival Beach & Spa Gulhi stands on an island where Maldivians live and work, so the island's rules apply to everyone staying there.

No alcohol. It is not sold or served anywhere on an inhabited island. Swimwear on the tourist beach. In the village, cover shoulders and knees. Friday is the day off. Shops close for prayers and fewer boats run, so check your transfer times if you arrive or leave on a Friday.

Ask us about any of this before you book. We would rather you knew now than on the jetty.

About the hotel

Arrival Beach & Spa is a seventy-room hotel on Gulhi, with a spa and a speedboat that runs late into the evening. That last boat is the reason to pick it: you can land after dinner and still sleep on the island. Every price includes the room, breakfast or half board, the return shared speedboat and every tax, green tax included.

What this actually costs

The Standard and Superior rooms are compact, under 17 square metres. The Deluxe Sea View rooms cost about a tenth more than the Standard Room and are the ones we would choose for a couple. The Junior Sea View Suites cost about a quarter more, and the single Arrival Suite, with its jacuzzi, costs over three quarters more.

The Family Room sleeps three adults. Prices shown are for two; ask us to add the third.

Half board adds dinner and puts about a third on a three-night stay.

October and November to 23 December are within a few percent of each other. Dates from January are not on the dropdown yet; ask.

Who this isn’t for

Anyone who wants a drink. Gulhi is an inhabited island and no alcohol is served on it.

Groups larger than nine rooms, and anyone hoping to fly out on 31 December: the hotel does not allow departures that day, and Christmas and New Year carry compulsory gala dinners.

Before you book

The shared speedboat takes about 20 minutes. It leaves Velana at 10:30, 12:30, 17:00 and 22:45, and leaves Gulhi at 06:30, 11:30, 16:00 and 20:00. Land by about 21:45 for the last boat.

Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00.
