The last speedboat of the day leaves at 16:00. Allow an hour to clear the airport, so land well before then or plan a night in Malé before you reach the island.
A shared speedboat on a timetable, not a private boat. It leaves Velana at 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00, so you may wait at the airport for the next one. A private boat can be arranged and is charged on top.

Staying on a local island
Arena Beach Hotel Maafushi stands on an island where Maldivians live and work, so the island's rules apply to everyone staying there.
No alcohol. It is not sold or served anywhere on an inhabited island. Swimwear on the tourist beach. In the village, cover shoulders and knees. Friday is the day off. Shops close for prayers and fewer boats run, so check your transfer times if you arrive or leave on a Friday.
Ask us about any of this before you book. We would rather you knew now than on the jetty.
About the hotel
Arena Beach Hotel is a four-star hotel on Maafushi with seven room types, from a windowless standard room to sea-view rooms that sleep three. It suits couples on a budget who want to choose exactly how much view they pay for. Every price includes the room, breakfast or half board, the return shared speedboat and every tax, green tax included.
What this actually costs
The Standard Room is the cheapest, and it has no window or balcony. We would only book it for travellers who are out from breakfast to dark. The Standard Deluxe with a balcony costs barely more and is the better choice.
Island-view rooms with a balcony cost about a tenth more than the Standard Room. Sea-view rooms start at about a quarter more, and the Premium Super Deluxe Sea View, which sleeps three, is close to half as much again.
Half board adds dinner and puts about a quarter on a three-night stay.
October is the cheapest window. From November to March the same room costs about a sixth more.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants a drink. Maafushi is an inhabited island and no alcohol is served on it. It is also busy, with other hotels close by, so light sleepers should ask us for a quiet room.
Christmas and New Year are not on the dropdown and carry compulsory gala dinners.
Before you book
The shared speedboat leaves Velana at 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 only. Land by about 16:00, or let us arrange a private boat or a night in Malé.
Children aged two to eleven are charged a nightly supplement. Honeymooners get a cake and a decorated bed with a marriage certificate dated within the last six months.
Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00.
