Maafushivaru is a small island in South Ari Atoll, 25 minutes by seaplane from Velana. It is one of the few resorts we sell where the figure on this page is the whole thing: half board, the return seaplane and every tax are already in it.

Three nights for two in an Over Water Villa starts at ₹260,400, and everything here has to be booked by 30 September 2026.

What this actually costs

Pick a villa and a package above and the price is the whole stay for two adults. Minimum three nights.

  • Extra nights cost about half what the first three do. Three September nights in the Over Water Villa is ₹260,800 and five is ₹362,700, so nights four and five land near ₹51,000 each against ₹87,000 for each of the first three. You pay the seaplane once.
  • The private pool buys 56 square metres, not just a pool. The Over Water Villa is 95 m² and the pool version 151 m², for ₹60,200 more on three September nights. The Beach Villa is 99 m² and ₹25,100 above the Over Water Villa, so here the water is the cheaper side.
  • January to April is the peak and September the buy. The same Over Water Villa is ₹345,600 for three nights from 8 January 2027 against ₹260,800 in September, settling back to ₹260,400 from 11 April.

Off the dropdown, and we will book any of it. Half Board Plus at US$130 per adult per night, or Dine Around All Inclusive at US$130, US$170 between 8 January and 10 April 2027. Both need three nights and are free for under-twelves.

Also October 2027, where three nights over the water is ₹293,800, and the two family rooms: the 129 m² Beach Family Villa and the 184 m² Two Bedroom Beach Villa with Private Pool.

Who this isn't for

Anyone landing at Velana after 15:00. Seaplanes run 06:00 to 16:00 and there is no transfer after that, so a late arrival costs you a night in Malé. Going home is stricter than most islands: the seaplane only meets flights leaving from 09:00, and the last one off the island is mid-afternoon.

Snorkellers who want coral above all. The reef is a short swim from the pool-villa pier and the sharks and rays are reliable, but the coral is good rather than exceptional and still being regrown.

Anyone travelling 24 December to 7 January. Those dates sit outside these prices and carry compulsory dinners of US$225 an adult on Christmas Eve and US$500 an adult on New Year's Eve, with a five-night minimum.

Before you book

  • Travel runs to 31 October 2027. These prices do not combine with the early booking or long stay offers. Honeymoon and anniversary amenities do stack, both on four nights or more.
  • A third guest is priced on top. An extra adult is US$966 across the three nights to 31 October 2026 and US$1,031 after, then US$147 or US$162 a night. A child of 2 to 11.99 is US$391 and US$12 a night beyond, which is green tax and nothing else.
  • Cancellation has no middle step. Free until fifteen days out and then the whole stay, tightening to thirty days from January to April. Leaving early is charged in full.
  • The seaplane is a wait, not a hop. Allow two to three hours in the lounge before it leaves. Baggage is 20 kg checked and 5 kg hand. Send us your flight details a week ahead.

House reef 4/5 Strong

Worth choosing the resort for. One or two caveats on entry point or current.

Best entry is the ladder at the end of the pier off the Over Water Villas with Private Pool. It puts you on the drop-off with almost no swim, and there are two other entries plus three marked routes. A gentle drift circles the island, so get in up-current and come out at the next cut rather than swimming back. Sharks and rays are the strong part and they are reliable: blacktips, whitetips and nurse sharks in close, eagle and sting rays further out. Coral is good rather than exceptional. Do not try to swim to Lonubo, the water between is deep and the current runs hard.

Land at Velana after 15:00 and the last transfer of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.

Shared seaplane, daylight only. The last flight out leaves at 16:00 and anyone landing after 15:00 overnights in Malé, so send us your flight numbers before you book. Coming home, the seaplane only connects with flights departing 09:00 onwards and the last transfer off the island is mid-afternoon.

Where is OUTRIGGER Maafushivaru and how do I get there? +
The resort sits on its own island in South Ari Atoll, a 25-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport in Male. Seaplanes operate in daylight only. Your inbound flight needs to land by 15:30 and seaplane check-in closes at 16:00. There is no speedboat alternative.
What happens if my flight from India lands late? +
You overnight in Male at your own cost and fly out to the island the next morning, which means losing a night of your stay. Book a morning arrival from Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru. Tell us your flight numbers and we will check the connection before you pay for anything.
Which villa should I book? +
The Over Water Villa is the cheapest room on the island, cheaper than the Beach Villa in every season on this rate. If you want a pool, the Over Water Villa with Private Pool at 151 sqm is the one most couples choose. Sunset-facing categories cost more and sell out earlier.
What does half board include here? +
Breakfast and dinner at Cuisine Gallery, the buffet restaurant. Drinks are charged as you take them. Half Board Plus adds alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages from noon daily. Dine-Around All Inclusive adds lunch at Edgewater and dinner at the a la carte restaurants. Both upgrades are a per-adult, per-night supplement.
Are taxes and service charge included in the price? +
Yes. The 10 percent service charge, 17 percent T-GST and the green tax are all inside the price shown. Nothing further is added at check-out. Excursions, spa treatments, drinks outside your meal plan and any villa upgrade are extra.
How good is the house reef? +
Strong for sharks and rays, honest about coral. Blacktip, whitetip and nurse sharks come in close, with grey reef sharks on the outer edge, plus eagle and sting rays, barracuda and moray. Turtles turn up but are not a given. Coral is being regrown under a resort propagation programme, so widely travelled snorkellers call it good rather than exceptional. Enter at the ladder on the pool-villa pier for the shortest swim to the drop-off.
Does the resort work for families? +
There is a Treehouse Kids Retreat, a 9-hole mini golf track, a games area and a doctor's clinic on the island. Note that the six villas on this rate take a maximum of three adults, or two adults and one child. If you need two separate bedrooms, ask us about the Family Beach Villa or the two-bedroom beach villas with pool, which are priced separately.
How many restaurants are there? +
Cuisine Gallery is the buffet where half board is served. Moodhu Grill spreads across five over-water dining platforms. Art-i-san sits at the highest point on the island. Koto does Japanese fusion and a teppanyaki table over the sunset lagoon. Koffee 'n Chill and Edgewater Bar cover the rest of the day. Book the a la carte venues before you arrive.
