Encircled by the vast stretch of the Indian Ocean – humid, clear, warm, and plenteous of life-sustaining coral reefs – the islands at the Maldives have, since the 1980s, fascinated travelers in chase of relaxation and isolation on pristine, sugar-soft beaches. In the last decade or so, as many as 20 to 30 new properties – right from family resorts to five-star-plus options, have cropped up in the country’s atolls.
