Not a continuous reef. Clusters of rock and coral in a shallow lagoon where the fish gather, which is honestly a decent place to learn. Blacktips, stingrays and good fish life are common, and there is a drop-off for divers. Reports vary a lot depending on which patch you find, so ask the water sports desk on day one rather than swimming out and hoping. Fifteen minutes from Male means boat and seaplane traffic, which you will notice. Excursions run through one operator and are not cheap.

About the resort
Villa Nautica, Paradise Island is twenty minutes from Velana International Airport by speedboat, and the boat runs around the clock. Land close to midnight and you still sleep on the island that night, with no seaplane cut-off to plan around.
It is a big, lively resort in North Malé Atoll rather than a hideaway, with eight places to eat and drink and a kids' club, Wavy Navy. Ten villa types are priced here, from a Beach Villa to a two-bedroom suite over the water.
What you pay
Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay for two: the villa, breakfast, lunch and dinner, the return speedboat and every tax, green tax included. Nothing more is payable at the resort for those.
The dry season is the dearest stretch, about two fifths above the green season for the same three nights in a Beach Villa.
Five nights is not priced on this page, but we can book it. Ask us and we will quote a Beach Villa over five nights against the shorter stays already shown.
Choose the beach over the water. The Deluxe Beach Pool Villa is 150 m² with its own plunge pool. The Water Villa is 77 m² with no pool, and it is the dearer of the two in every season here.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two, breakfast, lunch and dinner, the return scheduled speedboat, airport meet and greet, a litre of drinking water each a day, Wi-Fi, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, drinks at the bars and with meals, the three all-inclusive plans, spa, diving and excursions, the compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone booking for the snorkelling. The reef is not a continuous wall but clusters of rock and coral in a shallow lagoon. It is a forgiving place to learn, with blacktip sharks and stingrays common, but it is patchy. Ask the water sports desk where to swim.
Anyone after a small, quiet island. Malé is close, and you will hear the boats and seaplanes. If whale sharks and a quieter lagoon matter more than a short transfer, its sister resort, Villa Park Sun Island in South Ari Atoll, is the better fit.
Families expecting children to stay free. Children aged 2 to 11 are charged on these prices, with their own boat and green tax. Most villas take two adults and one child, so a family of four needs one of the two-bedroom villas.
Before you book
The festive fortnight is not priced on this page. Four nights is the minimum, nobody checks out on 24 or 31 December, and the gala dinners are compulsory: US$260 per person on Christmas Eve and US$350 on New Year's Eve. We can still book it.

What all-inclusive plans are available?
The prices on this page are full board: breakfast, lunch and dinner, with drinks charged. Villa Nautica also runs three all-inclusive plans on top of that: All Inclusive, Dine-Around Premium All Inclusive and the Infinity Plan, each adding drinks and more of the resort's dining. They are not priced on this page. Tell us which one interests you and we will price it for your dates.
Where can I eat and drink?
There are eight places to eat and drink, including Bageecha for the international buffet, The Lagoon, an overwater buffet, Ristorante al-Tramonto for Italian, The Hook for seafood on the jetty and Fukuya for teppanyaki. Press and Pot serves specialty coffee, Dhaavani Coffee Shop is open 24 hours, and Captain's Bar and the Beach Bar handle cocktails and sundowners. Drinks are charged on full board.
What is Araamu Spa like?
Araamu Spa is set in a tropical garden and offers Ayurvedic treatments, wellness programmes and its own signature therapies. Treatments are not in the full-board price on this page. Tell us what you would like and we can book them before you travel, or price an all-inclusive plan if the spa is a big part of your holiday.
What is there to do in the water?
Villa Nautica has a PADI dive centre and a water sports desk. The house reef is not a continuous wall but clusters of rock and coral in a shallow lagoon: a forgiving place to learn, with blacktip sharks and stingrays common, and a drop-off for divers. Ask the desk where to swim on your first day. Diving and excursions are not in the full-board price.
Is Villa Nautica good for families?
Yes. The Wavy Navy Kids Club runs daily from 09:00 to 18:00 for children up to 12. Children aged 2 to 11 are charged on these prices, with their own boat seat and green tax. Most villas take two adults and one child, so a family of four needs the Two Bedroom Beach Villa with Two Pools or the Two Bedroom Ocean Suite with Pool.
What do honeymooners and celebrations get?
Honeymooners receive sparkling wine and a fruit basket on arrival. Anniversary guests receive sparkling wine and a cake, and birthday guests a cake and a bottle of wine. Tell us the occasion when you book so the resort has it ready for your arrival.
What else is in the price?
