Vilu Reef is named after its reef and it earns it. The coral starts a few metres off the beach, so you swim to it rather than boat out, and the lagoon is shallow enough for a nervous snorkeller. Guests report blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, nurse sharks, hawksbill turtles, stingrays and eagle rays, several of them seen from an overwater deck. The caveat is recent building work on the island: guests in early 2026 found the reef silted and the visibility poorer close to the works, though better at the far side. Land at Velana after 15:30 and the last seaplane of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
Thirty-five minutes, the shortest seaplane hop of the Sun Siyam islands, and daylight only. Land at Velana before 15:30 and you reach the island the same afternoon; later than that means a night in Male. There is a Sun Siyam lounge at the airport and another at the seaplane terminal, and the resort aims to fly you out within three hours of checking in there. Flight details are needed ten days ahead to hold the seats. Anyone on an international flight leaving Male before 09:00 travels back the previous afternoon. Baggage is 20 kg checked plus 5 kg cabin.

About the resort
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef is named after its reef, and the coral starts a few metres off the beach. It is a 35-minute seaplane from Velana, the shortest hop of the Sun Siyam islands. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so land before 15:30 or you spend the first night in Malé.
This is a small, green, quiet island in Dhaalu Atoll, and every price here is the twenty-four hour all-inclusive dine-around. Six kinds of villa are priced on this page, from a thatched beach villa with its own pool to the Ocean Signature Villa, which has a slide from the deck into the lagoon.
What you pay
Every price is for two people, for the nights you pick, with the all-inclusive plan, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax already inside. Four and seven nights are priced on every date, and three nights on the earliest dates. The dry season is the dearest time here and the green season the gentlest.
Book sixty days ahead and Sun Siyam takes fifteen per cent off the villa, or ten per cent at thirty days. That is not in the price you see. We apply it when we price your stay.
Two children under twelve stay and eat free in your villa. Their green tax and seaplane seats are charged, so tell us their ages early.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: the villa, breakfast, lunch and dinner across The Aqua, Well Done and The Spice, drinks at the Nautilus bar around the clock, a minibar restocked daily, an hour of non-motorised watersports a day, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax. On the earliest dates the price also brings a sunset dolphin cruise, a local island trip, a romantic dinner, and a floating breakfast in the pool villas.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone after a water park, a big pool scene or nightlife. Sun Siyam Vilu Reef is small, quiet and a little old-fashioned in places, and that is the point of it. Families who want a water park should look at Siyam World instead.
The island has been through building work. Guests have found the reef silted and the water cloudier close to the works, though clear on the far side. Tell us your dates and we will tell you what is open and where the good water is.
Before you book
The seaplane needs your flight details ten days ahead. If your international flight leaves Malé before 09:00, you fly back to Velana the afternoon before.

Send us your flight times and we will pass them to the resort, which needs them ten days ahead. Seaplane baggage is 20 kg checked plus 5 kg in the cabin.

For families who want a calm island and good snorkelling, yes. Two children under twelve stay and eat free in your villa, though their seaplane seats and green tax are charged. The Ocean Signature Villa sleeps two adults and three children and has its own slide into the lagoon. There is no water park or big pool scene. For that, look at Siyam World.
