Fine
A small reef rather than one you can swim around, but the fish life is real. You get in off the beach, or down the steps from a Water Villa deck, and guests report schools of reef fish, turtles and reef sharks in the lagoon. The complaint that keeps coming back is that the reef is small and not very varied. The main beach by the pool has stones, sea grass and coral underfoot, so pack reef shoes. The beach by the family rooms is finer and shallower, which suits children. The boat trips are the stronger product here.

About the resort
OBLU Xperience Ailafushi is fifteen minutes from Velana International Airport by the resort's own speedboat, in North Malé Atoll. That short hop is the whole point: no seaplane, no domestic flight, and the boat is inside the price.
It is a big, lively, all-inclusive island of 268 rooms and villas, run as a four-star resort. Expect a busy pool bar with a live band or DJ every night, a kids' club with its own pool, and Only Blu, a restaurant built under the lagoon.
What you pay
The price on this page is for two adults sharing, for four nights, on the resort's Fushi Plan, with the speedboat both ways and every Maldivian tax inside it. Four nights is the shortest stay priced here. Three nights can be booked, but it carries a supplement, so each night comes to more.
Dates move this price more than the villa does. The step from a Beach Villa to a Water Villa is small on most dates, and smaller than the step up from an Ocean View Room.
The Ocean View Family Two Bedroom is priced much like a Beach Villa. Ask us whether a children-stay-free offer applies to your dates. Christmas and New Year carry no compulsory gala dinner.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your room or villa for four nights; buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at Element X; house spirits, beer and house wine, with cocktails at X360 from six in the evening; a minibar restocked daily with beer and soft drinks; kayaks, paddleboards and pedal boats; the gym and the kids' club; the return speedboat; and every Maldivian tax.
Not in the price: Only Blu and the Copper Pot food truck, in-villa dining, the ELE|NA spa, excursions and motorised water sports, your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Couples after a quiet island should look elsewhere. OBLU Xperience Ailafushi is sociable and loud in the evenings, and it is full of families.
Keen snorkellers will find the reef small and not very varied. The island also sits close to the airport and Malé, and some rooms look across to them. Guests report that the buffet leans towards Indian and Asian cooking, which suits many of our travellers and disappoints a few.
Before you book
Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at noon, and the Fushi Plan stops at 11:00 on your last day. The Ocean View Room, Beach Villa and Water Villa each take a third guest on a sofa bed. The family room sleeps two adults and two children, or three adults and a child.
You can split four nights between a Beach Villa and a Water Villa, two nights each, though the resort may swap the order. Excursion prices on the island may not include service charge and tax, so check before you sign. Outside boats cannot collect guests, so every trip goes through the resort. Send us your flight numbers and we will pass them to the resort.

Not if quiet is the point. OBLU Xperience Ailafushi is a lively island with a live band or DJ at the pool bar every night and plenty of families. Couples who enjoy that atmosphere love it, and a Water Villa gives you your own deck over the lagoon. If you want calm evenings, ask us for a quieter island at a similar price.
