Exceptional
The reef runs right around the island with direct entry both off the water villa decks and straight into coral outside the family villas, and guests on their ninth Maldives trip rate the underwater here their best. Turtles, blacktip and other reef sharks, manta and eagle rays, parrotfish and big schools are all reported consistently. The sunset overwater villas sit closest to the drop-off. One honest note: this island took bleaching damage and guests describe the coral as coming back to life rather than untouched. Guests have asked the resort for flags and briefings to stop people standing on it.

About the resort
Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa, Centara Collection sits in South Ari Atoll with a reef running right round the island. You can step off a water villa deck or wade in from the beach onto coral, and turtles, reef sharks and rays are seen often. South Ari is also whale shark country.
It is a 25 minute seaplane flight from Velana airport. The island was known as Centara Grand Island until it was renamed.
What you pay
Every price on this page is for two adults sharing, three nights, half board plus, with the return seaplane, green tax and every Maldivian tax included. The Duplex Beach Villa is the entry point, and the overwater villas sit close together above it.

What's included, and what isn't
In the price: the villa, breakfast and dinner daily with two drinks each at meals, across the buffet, Thai and Italian restaurants, the return shared seaplane, green tax, all Maldivian taxes, snorkel gear for the stay and non-motorised water sports. The Club villas add The Club lounge, with its own pool, beach and all-day refreshments.
Not in the price: lunch, drinks outside meals, the Christmas Eve dinner, which is optional, excursions and diving, spa treatments, your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Late arrivals: the seaplane flies in daylight only, so a flight landing after mid-afternoon means a night in Malé. Anyone hoping for untouched coral should know the reef took bleaching damage and is recovering rather than pristine. It suits families and divers more than people looking for nightlife.
Before you book
Book an international flight landing between 06:00 and 15:30 so the seaplane can take you the same day. Each guest may bring 20 kg of luggage and 3 kg of hand baggage on the seaplane.
Children under fifteen stay and eat free when sharing their parents' beds; tell us their ages and we will price their seaplane seats. Three nights is the shortest stay we can sell. The New Year week carries a compulsory gala dinner and is not priced on this page. Pick your dates above and anything unpriced comes through to us with the dates already filled in.

What is The Club at Machchafushi?
A private lounge for guests in the two Club villas, with its own pool and beach, all-day refreshments, afternoon tea, sunset canapés and a floating breakfast once per stay.
