Thin
The house reef is a seven to ten minute boat ride away, not a swim. What surrounds the island is a shallow sand lagoon, and the villa ladders drop you onto sand rather than coral. That said, the lagoon itself is better than it sounds, with nurse sharks, stingrays, eagle rays and turtles turning up under the water villas. Two complimentary guided snorkelling trips run daily, weather permitting, and they are the reason to rate this island at all. It goes very shallow at low tide. Bring reef shoes and expect to do your snorkelling from a boat.

A Perfect Beach Vacation
The location is great. Not so close that you need to take a speedboat, but not so far that the seaplane ride gets tiring. The flight took about 35–40 minutes.

About the resort
Cocoon Maldives is a design-led island in Lhaviyani Atoll, 30 minutes from Velana by seaplane, and every price here is all-inclusive. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so land before 15:30 or you spend the first night in Malé.
It is a relaxed, colourful island with a long row of water villas, and a good fit for Indian families: two children stay and eat free, and the price brings a thali night with Jain, vegetarian or non-vegetarian menus. Seven kinds of villa are priced on this page, including the Lagoon Suite with its own slide into the lagoon.
What you pay
Every price is for three or four nights with the all-inclusive plan, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax inside. It is for two people, and four adults in the two-bedroom Cocoon Suite.
Up to two children stay and eat free in your villa. Their seaplane seats and green tax are charged, so tell us their ages early.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: the villa, all meals and drinks on the all-inclusive plan, afternoon tea at Octopus, one thali night, one romantic dinner at Manta, a 30-minute spa treatment, a local island trip, a snorkelling trip by boat every day, canoes and paddleboards, a lounge at the seaplane terminal, the kids' club, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax. The pool villas also get one floating breakfast.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Keen snorkellers who want to swim straight off the beach. The island sits in a shallow sand lagoon, and the reef is a short boat ride away. The daily trip takes you there, and rays and turtles do turn up under the water villas, but it is not a swim-out reef.
Before you book
The beach villas and suites sleep three adults, or two adults and one or two children depending on the villa. The Cocoon Suite sleeps six adults, or four adults and two children. The Family Beach Villa and split stays between the beach and the water are priced on request.
