There is no reef within swimming distance at Canareef Resort Maldives. Snorkelling off the beach comes down to a few coral patches around the southern tip near the Beach Bar, and even those depend on the sea that day. The sunset side is sandy and barely two metres deep a long way out; the sunrise side is rocky and choppy. Anything better is a paid boat trip. What Addu really offers is the diving: some of the healthiest coral in the Maldives, a WWII wreck you can swim inside, and manta sites.

About the resort
Canareef Resort Maldives sits in Addu Atoll, the southernmost in the country, next door to Gan International Airport. The prices above are three nights for two, with the return domestic flights from Malé already inside them.
Come here as a diver. Addu has more than twenty-five dive sites, a year-round manta station and the British Loyalty, a WWII tanker you can swim inside.
Three villa types, all on the sand along 4.5 km of coastline. There are no overwater villas at Canareef Resort Maldives.
What you pay
Pick a villa and a package above. Board and travel dates move together and three nights is the shortest stay. Every figure is the total for two adults: villa, meal plan, return Malé transfers and every Maldivian tax.
Only a short window is priced on this page at the moment. Pick your dates above and anything outside that window comes through to us with the dates already filled in, and we will price it for you.
The Malé transfer is the biggest single line inside each figure. If you can fly into Gan instead, ask us before you buy flights and we will price it both ways.
Moving up a villa category adds less than moving up a meal plan does, so the better room is the cheaper upgrade here.
What’s included, and what isn’t
In the price: the villa, your meal plan as buffet dining at Kilhi, the return Malé transfers for two, one dolphin watching excursion each, and every Maldivian tax.
Keymaa, the second buffet, is not yours by default. It is kept for Premium Beach Villa guests. Everyone else gets one meal there free and pays a supplement after that.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, the bars, snorkelling and diving trips, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
The speedboat from Gan is free on some rates and charged on others. Ask us which yours is before you buy a flight into Gan, because it changes which routing is actually cheaper.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants a house reef outside the door. There is no reef within swimming distance at Canareef Resort Maldives. Snorkelling off the beach comes down to a few coral patches at the southern tip by the Beach Bar, and how good they are depends on the sea that day. Anything better is a paid boat trip.
Swimming is on the western, sunset side only. The eastern, sunrise side is the atoll’s outer barrier and swimming there is not allowed, which matters because the cheapest villa, the Sunrise Villa, is on that side.
Anyone who wants a firm price a long way ahead. The window priced here is short, and everything beyond it is quoted against the rates running when you ask.
Before you book
Land at Velana after 14:25 and the connection south is not guaranteed. A later arrival can mean six hours at the airport, and after 22:00 a same-day transfer cannot be guaranteed at all, with a night in Malé at your own expense. Send us your flights before you buy them.
The festive period is not priced on this page. Compulsory gala supplements sit on top whichever plan you are on, so we price those dates on request.
Children under two stay free. The Malé transfer is charged for a child; from Gan it is not.

Day 1, arriving
Two completely different journeys reach this island, and which one you take is worth real money. Fly into Male and it is a domestic flight south plus a boat, around 105 minutes of travelling, and that return transfer is inside the price on this page. Fly into Gan instead and the resort's boat is free on some rates and charged on others, so ask us which yours is before you buy a flight into Gan. The resort wants flight details at least fourteen days ahead either way, which is longer notice than most, so do not leave it to the week before. Land at Velana after 14:25 and the connection south is not guaranteed; the wait can run to six hours. After 22:00 a same-day transfer cannot be guaranteed at all, and a night in Male is at your own expense.
Do these three things when you land.
- Tell us your routing before you book. Gan against Male can be the difference between a free transfer and a paid one for two.
- Ask the dive centre what is running that week. This is a diving island first and the good sites need planning.
- Claim your complimentary dolphin cruise. It is one per person per stay and it is easy to forget until the last day.
Days 2 to 3, your full days
Mornings
There is one good stretch of house reef, at the beach bar end, where the water is shallow and the fish life is genuinely good. Beyond that, the sunset side is sandy and barely two metres deep a long way out, and the sunrise side is rocky and choppy. What Addu actually offers is underwater: some of the healthiest coral left in the Maldives, a WWII wreck you can swim inside, and manta sites.
- Divers
- This is why you came. Addu's sites are the argument for travelling this far south, and they are not crowded the way the central atolls are.
- Snorkellers
- Work the beach bar end, and take the paid trip to the better reef at the neighbouring resort at least once. Do not plan every morning around the house reef.
- Anyone here for the beach
- Walk it. The length of that beach is the quiet pleasure of this island and it does not appear in any photograph properly.
Afternoons
Pools, gym, tennis, beach volleyball, billiards and table tennis are all included, as is the dolphin cruise once per person per stay. Beyond that the resort runs its own excursion programme, priced separately and moving through the season, so tell us what you want to do and we will price it against your dates. The Addu links road and Gan are genuinely worth a trip if you want to see something other than a resort island.
Evenings
Meals are buffet at Kilhi, the main restaurant, on whichever plan you take. Half board, full board and all-inclusive are all sold. Service charge, GST and the green tax are already inside the rate, so nothing lands at check-in from those.
Day 4, leaving
The domestic flight needs a buffer in both directions and it is a long way back. If you flew into Gan you go out the same easy way. Reconfirm the connection the evening before either way.
Who this island's day does not suit
Anyone whose morning is a snorkel off their own steps, and anyone who wants to be near Male. This is the long way south, and the reason to come is the diving and the quiet, not convenience.
What you will still pay
Less than you would expect, because the rate already carries service charge, GST and the green tax. What reaches the folio is diving, the paid reef trip to the neighbouring island, the spa and anything outside your meal plan.
