Avani+ Fares Maldives has a reef you can reach without a boat, and guests regularly report reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays, octopus and big schools of fish about twenty metres out. Snorkel gear is free for the whole stay. Two things to plan for. The lagoon goes very shallow at low tide, so check the tide before you walk in, which matters more from the beach than from an overwater villa. Some of the coral is dead and current can flatten the visibility, so the fish life is the draw rather than the coral. Hanifaru Bay, for mantas and whale sharks in season, is a boat trip away.

About the resort
Avani+ Fares Maldives sits in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, 35 minutes from Velana by seaplane. The return flight is inside every price on this page, along with breakfast and dinner, a short spa treatment and a dolphin trip.
This is a big, lively island built with families in mind: a kids' club, a children's restaurant, a main pool by the beach, five places to eat and drink, and a house reef you can swim to. Couples come too, mostly for the overwater villas.
What you pay
Every price is for two adults sharing, three or four nights. The fourth night adds about a fifth to the three-night price, which makes it the best value night of the stay.
Dates move the price more than the villa does. The middle of the year, the wetter southwest monsoon, comes in more than a quarter under the dry-season peak for the same villa.
The Premium rooms are the way in. A Beachfront room is a few per cent more than an Ocean View one. A Beach Villa adds roughly a quarter to a third over an Ocean View room, an Overwater Villa about a tenth more again, and a private pool roughly a fifth on top of that.
You can split the stay, two nights on the beach and two over the water. A split lands between the two villas' four-night prices.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your room or villa for two, breakfast and dinner daily, the return shared seaplane, a 30-minute spa treatment for each adult once per stay, one dolphin trip, weather permitting, a short photo session with one print, snorkel gear, kayaks and windsurfing, scheduled yoga and fitness classes, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.
On some dates the plan moves up to full board at no charge, with lunch at the buffet, and the price panel says which. Pool villas add one floating breakfast.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, drinks (they are charged as you go on half and full board), in-villa dining, diving and excursions, the rest of the spa menu, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone after a small, quiet island. Avani+ Fares Maldives has a lot of rooms and a busy kids' programme. It is relaxed, not hushed.
Anyone landing late. The seaplane flies in daylight only. An international flight that lands after 15:00 means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
Anyone who wants drinks included. All inclusive can be added, but it is not the plan priced here, so ask us to price it for your dates.

Check-in is 14:00 and check-out is 12:00. The seaplane allows 25 kg of checked luggage and 5 kg in the cabin per person.

What meal plan is priced on this page?
Half board: breakfast at the Ocean Terrace buffet, and dinner at the Ocean Terrace, three courses at Skipjack, the set menu at Charcoal or three tapas at Tribe, booked ahead. On some dates the plan moves up to full board at no charge, adding lunch at the buffet. Drinks are charged as you go. All inclusive can be added, and we will price it for your dates.
Is Avani+ Fares Maldives good for families?
Yes. AvaniKIDS takes children from four to twelve, Petit Bistro is a restaurant just for children, and there is a playground and a splash zone. The Premium rooms sleep two adults and two children. Parents of young children sign a waiver for the overwater villas.
