Villa Park Sun Island

Villa Park Sun Island sits in South Ari Atoll, on the stretch of the Maldives where whale sharks are seen all year. Getting there is a short domestic flight to Maamigili and a five-minute boat, and that flight is already inside every price on this page.

It is a large, busy island built for families and groups. Twelve villa types are priced here, all on breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a kids' club, Park Players, open from 10:00 to 22:00. The five cheapest villas sit close together in price, so choose by position rather than budget.

What you pay

Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay for two: the villa, breakfast, lunch and dinner, the return domestic flight and boat, and every tax, green tax included. Nothing more is payable at the resort for those.

The flight is paid once, so stay longer. In a Sun Villa the four nights after the third add less than the first three did, because the transfer is already inside the price.

The seaplane is an upgrade, not the default. It takes about 35 minutes, is dearer for two than the flight that is in these prices, and the last one leaves at 15:30 against 17:00. We price it on request.

What's included, and what isn't

In the price: your villa for two, breakfast, lunch and dinner, the return domestic flight to Maamigili and the boat to the island, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.

Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, drinks at the bars and with meals, the three all-inclusive plans, the seaplane, whale shark trips and other excursions, diving and spa, the compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.

Who this isn't for

Anyone who wants to snorkel from the villa. The good reef is one stretch, reached by a ladder off the jetty behind Al Pontile, the Italian restaurant. It drops about three metres straight down, so it suits confident swimmers. The rest of the lagoon is shallow sand, the coral near the villas is mostly dead, and water shoes help.

Anyone landing in Malé after 17:00. Miss the last flight and you spend a night in Malé at your own expense before the morning transfer. For a short trip on late flights, its sister resort, Villa Nautica, Paradise Island, is twenty minutes away by speedboat at any hour.

Anyone after a quiet island. Villa Park is big and sociable, and it feels it at the buffet and on the beach.

Before you book

The festive fortnight is not priced on this page. Seven nights is the minimum, the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve gala dinners are compulsory, and nobody checks out on 24 or 31 December. We can still book it.

Two-bedroom villas for four or more are not priced on this page, but we can book them. Tell us the ages of any children and we will price them in. The kids' club takes ages 3 to 11.
