A small round island with a natural reef most of the way around it, and the drop-off about two minutes' swim from the beach. Guests report resident turtles, blacktips, rays and moray eels, with a fish density that people who have snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef rate above it. The stretch between the restaurant and the spa is the one to swim, and marked channels show you where to cross. The current usually runs one way along the reef, so get in up-current, drift back and walk. Gear is free, and a resident marine biologist runs guided and night snorkels.

Land at Velana after 15:00 and the last seaplane of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
The return seaplane is inside every price, for two in a one-bedroom villa and four in a two-bedroom. Access to the Vilu lounge before the flight, and seaplanes fly in daylight only.
About the resort
W Maldives is on Fesdu Island in North Ari Atoll, 25 minutes from Velana by seaplane. The price on this page covers the island part of the holiday in full: your villa, the shared return seaplane, your meal plan and every Maldivian tax, green tax included.
The choice that matters most here is the meal plan. Half board and full board include no drinks at all, not even bottled water. The island has six places to eat and drink, from KITCHEN, the all-day restaurant, to FISH over the lagoon and SIP, the overwater bar.
What you pay
Pick your dates, a villa and a meal plan and the price is the whole stay: two people in a one-bedroom villa or four in a two-bedroom, with a seaplane seat for each of them. Three and four nights are priced on this page.
The entry point is three nights on half board in the Superior Overwater One-bedroom Villa. The green season is priced lower again.
On honeymoon, book four nights. The resort's honeymoon and anniversary benefits need four nights in a row, and at three you get none of them. The fourth night in that same villa adds about a quarter to the three-night price.
For four people, take the two-bedroom villa. Four nights in the Supreme Overwater Two-bedroom Villa come to appreciably less than two Superior Overwater villas, and two adults with two children fit the same price.
All inclusive rarely pays here. It adds drinks from 11:00 to 23:00 from a set menu, and the step over full board is steep. Unless you drink steadily through the day, half or full board and paying for what you order usually comes out lower.

In the price: your villa, breakfast and dinner on half board, all three meals on full board, meals and drinks from 11:00 to 23:00 on all inclusive, the shared return seaplane with the lounge before your flight, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, any drink on half or full board, FISH, destination dining and the themed evenings on every plan, any seaplane fuel surcharge, the spa and excursions, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Three adults in a one-bedroom villa. These prices are for two, and a third person needs the resort's approval and their own seaplane seat. Ask us before you plan on it.
Anyone landing at Velana after 15:00. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late arrival means a night in Malé first and a paid night on the island lost.
Honeymooners on three nights, for the reason above, and anyone hoping to add another offer on top. These prices combine only with the honeymoon and anniversary benefits.

Five nights or more, and a split between a beach and an overwater villa, are not priced on this page. We can book both. On a split stay the resort can change the second villa, so talk to us before you plan around it.
Honeymooners need the marriage certificate at the resort seven days before arrival. Infants under two stay and fly free. New bookings only, up to five villas.

KITCHEN is the all-day restaurant, FIRE does barbecue, FISH is the seafood restaurant over the lagoon, SIP is the overwater bar and KADA is a Maldivian café on the beach. FISH, destination dining and the themed evenings are charged on every meal plan, all inclusive included.
What is AWAY Spa like?
AWAY Spa takes its shape from a traditional Maldivian dhow, and its treatment rooms look out over the ocean. The menu runs from body wraps and sunburn soothers to steam baths and ocean-facing therapies. Treatments are not in the price on any meal plan. Tell us what you would like and we can book them before you travel.
What is there to do in the water?
The DOWN UNDER dive centre runs PADI diving in North Ari Atoll, and there are watersports from the beach and the resort's 25-metre sailing yacht, Escape, for private trips. Diving, the yacht and excursions are not in the price on any meal plan. Tell us what you want to do and we will have it priced for your dates.
Is W Maldives good for a honeymoon?
Yes, and book four nights. The resort's honeymoon and anniversary benefits need four nights in a row, and at three nights you get none of them. Send your marriage certificate to the resort seven days before arrival. Weddings and bigger celebrations are arranged by the resort and priced separately, so ask us.
When is the best time to visit W Maldives?
December to April is usually drier, with calmer seas and more sunshine. May to November is wetter and windier, and prices are lower. The sea stays warm all year, around 28 to 30°C. Christmas and New Year are not priced here, but we can book them.

Second visit
Second time at the W Maldives and another excellent stay. Small island, good snorkeling, excellent rooms, everyone very kind and helpful, and excellent food in the 3 restaurants.
