The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

At The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort the reef comes to the villa. From an overwater villa you climb down your own ladder and you are snorkelling. The best stretch runs between the marina and the overwater villas, and guests see reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays and big schools of fish there.

The resort is in Dhaalu Atoll, 45 minutes south of Velana by seaplane. Every villa has a private pool, four of the six types sit over the water, and a butler looks after each one.

What you pay

Pick a villa and three or four nights. The price is the whole stay for two adults, or four in the two-bedroom villas: the villa, half board, the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax, green tax included.

Four nights is the better buy. In an Overwater Villa with Pool the fourth night adds well below the nightly average of a three-night stay. Four nights is also what brings in the honeymoon extras.

Sand or ladder is close to a coin toss. Over four nights the Beach Villa with Pool comes to barely more than the Overwater Villa with Pool.

Half board means breakfast and dinner. Dinner is three courses from the à la carte menu at ALBA, or a credit to spend at another restaurant that night. Adding lunch for two adults over four nights is a modest step, and we will price it with the stay.

What's included, and what isn't

In the price: your villa for two adults, or four in the two-bedroom villas, breakfast and dinner daily, the shared return seaplane, the airport butler and lounge at Velana, and every Maldivian tax including green tax. Up to two children under twelve stay and eat free.

Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, lunch, alcohol, spa treatments, excursions, half of each child's seaplane seat and their green tax, a night in Malé if you land late, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.

Who this isn't for

Anyone landing at Velana after 15:30. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a later flight means a night in Malé at your own expense and the seaplane next morning. Going home, the seaplane serves flights leaving from 09:00.

Anyone expecting perfect coral. One side of the reef is still recovering from an old bleaching event, so the fish are the draw rather than the coral. Parts of the lagoon are shallow and some of the beach has coral underfoot. Pack reef shoes.

Honeymooners on three nights. The honeymoon extras start at four nights, so a three-night stay gets none of them.

Before you book

The seaplane is small and strict on bags. It seats fourteen, has no air conditioning, and allows 30 kg a person including hand luggage, plus one small cabin bag. Excess is charged by the kilo. Expect about two hours in the lounge at Velana before you fly.

Honeymoon and anniversary couples staying four nights get in-villa amenities, a bubble bath and a Blue Hole session. Bring a marriage certificate dated within the past twelve months.

Longer stays and the festive period are not priced on this page. We can still book them, and it pays to confirm early.
