Weak, and worth knowing before you book. The island opened at the end of 2023 in a developed lagoon fifteen minutes from Malé, and guests report very little to snorkel around it: a small coral patch, shallow clear water that suits a nervous beginner, and not much else. Sharks, rays and turtles do get seen, but on the resort's boat trips rather than off your own steps. Snorkelling gear is free at the watersports centre. Come here for the design, the food and the short transfer, and let us book your reef holiday somewhere else.

About the resort
SO/ Maldives is fifteen minutes from the airport by speedboat, and the boats run around the clock. No seaplane, no daylight cut-off, no night in Malé when your flight lands late. Accor put its design brand on an island of its own in the Emboodhoo Lagoon: eighty villas, three restaurants, a beach club and a kids club.
What you pay
Pick a villa and a length above. Every price is the whole stay for two adults: the villa, half board, the return speedboat and every Maldivian tax. Nothing is added at the resort. Three to seven nights are priced.
The beach villas are nearly twice the size of the overwater ones, and they are cheaper. 228 m² on the sand against 120 m² over the water. On this island the beach is the better buy, which is rare in the Maldives.
The season moves the price a long way. The green season is the cheapest window, and one stretch of the high season carries no offer behind it at all. The panel shows the figure for your own dates, so compare two sets before you fix your flights.
Half board is worth more here than it usually is. Dinner is three courses à la carte at any of the three restaurants, not a buffet. Full board, the all-inclusive and the two beverage packages are all sold but not priced on this page, and neither are six-night stays or the private speedboat. Ask us and we will add any of them.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two adults, half board with à la carte dinner, the return shared speedboat from Velana, and every Maldivian tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, lunch, drinks, excursions, diving, the spa, green tax for children, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
The offer dates take a child free. One child stays, eats from the kids' menu and travels free in the two-adult villas, two children in the Family and multi-bedroom ones. They pay US$12 a night in green tax and nothing else.
Who this isn't for
Anyone coming to snorkel. The island is new and sits in a developed lagoon, so there is little reef to swim out to. Guests do see sharks and rays, but on the boat trips the resort runs rather than off the beach. If the reef is the point of your holiday, we will send you north instead.
And anyone hoping for Christmas or New Year at these prices. The festive fortnight is not sold here, because the New Year gala dinner is compulsory for everyone on the island and the resort accepts no checkout on 30 or 31 December.
Before you book
Check in is 15:00 and check out 12:00. Four nights is the shortest stay on most dates and three on the offer dates, so tell us your dates and we will say which applies to you.
Honeymoon and anniversary couples get champagne and a resort photoshoot, and a couples' spa treatment on seven nights or more. The certificate runs for twelve months.
Under-fours stay free and pay only the green tax from their second birthday. Tell us everyone's ages and we will price the villa that fits your family.

Where is SO/ Maldives, and how do you get there?
On its own island in the Emboodhoo Lagoon, South Malé Atoll. The transfer from Velana International Airport is a shared speedboat of about fifteen minutes, and it runs twenty-four hours against your flight. There is no seaplane and no daylight cut-off, so a midnight arrival still reaches SO/ Maldives that night.
What is included in the price on this page?
The villa for the nights you pick, half board, the return shared speedboat and every Maldivian tax, green tax included. Half board here is dine-around: breakfast, and a three-course à la carte dinner at any of the three restaurants. Indian TCS is added separately, and the current rate is on our Taxes and TCS page.
Is the snorkelling any good?
No, and we would rather say so. The island opened at the end of 2023 in a developed lagoon and guests report very little reef to swim out to. Sharks, rays and turtles are seen on the boat trips the resort runs rather than off the beach. We rate the house reef 2 out of 5. Ask us for a reef island instead if that is the point of the holiday.
Is SO/ Maldives good for families?
Yes. There is a kids club, and the Family Beach Pool Villa with Capsule, 238 m² on the beach with a separate sleeping capsule, is priced for two adults and two children. In the other villas children stay as extra guests and are charged, though a child under two stays free and a child of two or three pays only green tax. Tell us the ages and we will price the villa that fits.
How many villas are there, and what are the categories?
Eighty: twenty-seven on the beach and fifty-three over the water. Beach Pool, Lagoon Beach Pool and Family Beach Pool with Capsule on the sand at 228 and 238 m²; Water Pool and Ocean Water Pool over the lagoon at 120 m²; and three multi-bedroom residences of 322, 240 and 410 m².
What meal plans are available?
This page prices half board dine-around. Bed and breakfast and full board are available too, and a Standard or Premium beverage package can be added to any meal plan. All-inclusive is not available on every date on this page. Tell us your dates and we will price the options side by side.
Is there a minimum stay?
Four nights is the shortest stay at SO/ Maldives on most dates and three on the offer dates, so tell us your dates and we will say which applies. This page prices three, four, five and seven nights, and we price six or longer on request. Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out is at 12:00.
Can we book Christmas or New Year?
Not at these prices. The festive fortnight is not priced on this page: the New Year's Eve gala dinner is compulsory for every guest on the island whatever meal plan they booked, and the resort accepts no check-out on 30 or 31 December. We can price the festive fortnight on request.
