Fari Islands is a man-made archipelago, so there is no natural house reef ringing the island. The sunrise side is calm and shallow with fish and small reef sharks off the villas, which suits nervous swimmers and children. For actual coral you take a boat, roughly twenty minutes. Ask for a sunrise villa if you want to snorkel from your steps at all.

About the resort
Where your villa sits matters more at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands than the category name suggests. Ristry Yanthi, Guest Recognition Agent, puts it plainly: "While many guests assume that all Overwater Villas are located along the outer ring of the resort, we also offer Overwater Villas situated closer to the island." Tell us at booking whether you want sunrise, sunset or a short walk to dinner.
This is a polished, busy island in a man-made archipelago in North Malé Atoll. Every villa has its own pool and an Aris Meeha butler on call around the clock. The speedboat takes 45 minutes and runs day and night, so a late flight from Delhi or Mumbai still reaches the island the same night. Arabesque serves North Indian alongside Levantine.
What you pay
Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay: two adults in a one-bedroom villa or four in a two-bedroom, with half board, the shared return speedboat and every tax, green tax included.
Book the fourth night. In an Ocean Pool Villa it adds less than any night after it, and four nights bring a spa credit of US$200 in a one-bedroom villa and US$500 in a two-bedroom. Two-bedroom guests also move from the speedboat to a shared yacht.
Families should look at the Beach Pool Villa. Two children under twelve stay, eat and travel free in every villa except the Ocean Pool and the Lagoon Pool, with only the children's green tax to add.

Who this isn't for
Snorkellers choosing on the house reef. The Fari Islands are man-made, so no natural reef rings the island. You can snorkel from the lagoon swimming platform and the Coral Garden Sanctuary at Mystique Garden, but real reef means a boat trip. Snorkelling trips start at age six.
Anyone after a small barefoot island. There is a marina village and neighbouring resorts, and it is built that way on purpose.

It shares a marina village with its neighbouring resorts, so it feels busier than a small barefoot island. Every villa has its own pool and a butler on call around the clock.
How do I get there?
By the resort's shared speedboat from Velana, which takes about 45 minutes and runs around the clock. There is no seaplane and so no daylight cut-off: a flight landing late at night still reaches the island that night. The return speedboat is in the price. On stays of four nights or more, two-bedroom villas move up to a shared yacht.
What meal plan do you sell?
Every price on this page is on half board. Breakfast is at La Locanda, and dinner is a set number of courses at La Locanda, Summer Pavilion, Arabesque, EAU Bar or Beach Shack. Lunch, every drink, IWAU, Tum Tum, theme nights, premium dishes such as lobster and caviar, and in-villa dining are charged. There is no drinks package. Ask us if you would prefer a different plan and we will price it.
What comes with every villa?
A private infinity pool, a sundeck and an Aris Meeha, the resort's own butler, available around the clock. Position matters as much as category. Not every overwater villa sits on the outer ring: some are closer to the island. Tell us at booking whether you want sunrise, sunset or a short walk to dinner, and we will pass the request on.
Where can I eat?
Seven restaurants and bars. La Locanda is Italian and serves breakfast, Summer Pavilion is Cantonese, IWAU runs two Japanese chef's tables, Beach Shack is Mediterranean and family-friendly, EAU Bar circles the infinity pool, Arabesque serves Levantine and North Indian, and Tum Tum does Asian street food at Fari Marina Village. The restaurant schedule changes every two weeks, so ask us which venues are open on your dates.
Is there Indian food?
Yes. Arabesque serves North Indian food alongside Levantine, and it is one of the five restaurants where your half board dinner can be taken, so a familiar dinner is part of the plan rather than an extra. Tell us about any dietary needs, such as vegetarian or Jain, when you book, and we will pass them to the resort before you arrive.
Is it suitable for families?
Yes. Ritz Kids runs for four to twelve year olds in an indoor-outdoor club with playgrounds, napping pods, a games and film room and a pool with slides. A free children's activity runs every day at 17:00 for under-12s. Babysitting is charged. Two children under twelve stay, eat and travel free in every villa except the Ocean Pool and the Lagoon Pool. Snorkelling trips start at age six.
What is the spa like?
A ring-shaped building set over the lagoon, with nine treatment rooms, a spa suite with its own relaxation lounge, a salon and a boutique. Treatments use Bamford products. Stays of four nights or more come with a spa credit of US$200 in a one-bedroom villa and US$500 in a two-bedroom, for treatments only. Book treatments several weeks before you travel.
Is there a house reef?
Not a natural one. The Fari Islands are man-made, so no natural reef rings the island. You can snorkel from the shore at two spots: the swimming platform in the lagoon and the Coral Garden Sanctuary at Mystique Garden. A day here
The day of the week sets the shape of your stay here, more than at most resorts. The excursion programme runs to a fixed weekly rota, so the trip you want decides which days you should be on the island. Turtle snorkelling goes Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The shark and manta dive goes Monday and Thursday only. The sunset cruise sails Wednesday and Saturday. Book a Tuesday to Friday and you will miss two of the three.
