Reef quality depends entirely on which side you are on. The bay side is shallow and calm, good for children, not for snorkelling. The reef edge sits off the ocean-facing water villas, roughly thirty metres out, with reliable turtles and blacktip sharks but a current strong enough that we would not send a nervous swimmer. Coral is visibly bleached in stretches. Come for the design and the food, and book a boat trip for the reef.

Transfers run around the clock, so any arrival time connects and you never need a night in Malé on the way in.

About the resort
At Patina Maldives, Fari Islands the water villa and the beach villa are the same price, in both seasons and at every length of stay. So the choice is only which you prefer: a pool deck over the lagoon, or sand at your door. The sunset-facing versions of each sit one step up.
Patina is the design-led, food-led island of the Fari Islands, in North Malé Atoll. Its days run on two weekly programmes. The one on land is almost all free: yoga, bicycles, paddleboards, kayaks, workshops and marine talks. The one on the water is almost all charged. Guests who only read the excursion menu miss half of what they already have.
What you pay
Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay for two: the villa, your meal plan, the return shared speedboat and every tax, green tax included.
The entry point is three nights on half board in a One Bedroom Water Pool Villa or Beach Pool Villa, and the two are priced level.
Take enhanced half board. Half board dinner is at Portico or Wok Society. Enhanced half board opens more of the island's restaurants and adds about four per cent to a three-night stay for two.
The sunset villas add about nine per cent over three nights on half board. That is the price of the western view.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two, breakfast and dinner on the plan you pick, the return shared speedboat, bicycles, snorkel gear, paddleboards and kayaks, the Footprints kids' club, filtered water, the dhoni between the Fari islands, wi-fi, your Patina Essentialist, and every Maldivian tax including green tax.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, every drink (each plan covers food only), meals at the Ritz-Carlton next door, excursions and diving, the spa, the seaplane or a private boat, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Anyone set on all inclusive. Patina sells no all inclusive plan at any price, and drinks are charged as you go.
Anyone who wants to snorkel off the beach. The bay side is shallow and calm, good for children and not for snorkelling. The reef is a strong swim or a paddle out, the current there is not for a nervous swimmer, and the coral is bleached in stretches. Plan on a boat trip.
Anyone after a small, barefoot, traditional island. Fari is a built place with a marina and neighbours, and makes no secret of it.
Before you book
These prices carry a booking deadline and a travel window, and they are for travellers from India. Christmas and New Year are not priced on this page. We can still book them.
The speedboat takes 45 minutes and runs day and night. Shared boats wait for international arrivals, so allow 30 to 60 minutes at Velana. A late-night transfer can carry a surcharge. The seaplane is 15 minutes but needs a landing by 15:00.
Families do well here. Children of eleven and under stay free where the villa allows, eat free from the kids' menu, and two children's boat transfers are included. Footprints takes ages four to eleven. The two-bedroom villas are not priced on this page, but we can book them.
Book restaurants and excursions about a week ahead. Diving is arranged once you arrive.

On its own island in the Fari Islands, a small archipelago in North Malé Atoll. It shares a lagoon with The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, and a complimentary dhoni runs between the two. The return speedboat from Velana International Airport takes 45 minutes and is in the price.
How do I get there?
The return shared speedboat is in the price. It takes 45 minutes from Velana International Airport and runs day and night, though outside standard hours a surcharge can apply. Shared boats are timed to international arrivals, so allow 30 to 60 minutes at the airport. A private boat or the 15-minute seaplane is charged extra, and the seaplane needs your flight to land by 15:00.
Is there an all-inclusive plan?
No. This page prices half board and enhanced half board, and both cover food only, with drinks charged as you go. Half board dinner is at Portico or Wok Society, two rooms on an island built around its restaurants, so we price enhanced half board alongside it. If you are comparing Patina Maldives against an all-inclusive resort, add in the drinks before you decide.
Can I eat at the Ritz-Carlton next door?
Yes, and the boat across to The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is complimentary. You need a restaurant reservation, which you make after you arrive at Patina. Your Patina meal-plan credit does not apply at the Ritz-Carlton venues, so those meals are charged separately. Whichever plan you pick, budget for those dinners on top of it.
What is the house reef like?
Not a step off the beach, whichever way you go. Patina Maldives describes a lively reef on the north-west side, about ten to fifteen minutes' paddle out. There is also a reef edge roughly thirty metres off the ocean-facing water villas, with turtles and blacktip sharks, but the current there is not for a nervous swimmer and the coral is bleached in stretches. Plan on a boat trip or a strong swim. Snorkel gear is included and Dive Butler International runs the dive centre.
Is it suitable for families?
Unusually so for this level. Footprints, the kids’ club, is complimentary for four to eleven year olds, and under-threes may use it with a parent. Under-twelves eat free from the kids’ menu in Patina’s own restaurants, children of eleven and under stay free where the villa allows, and two children’s return boat transfers are included. There is a clinic on the island with a doctor and a nurse.
Where can I eat?
Portico is the all-day restaurant. Wok Society, Farine, Brasa, KANDU, Helios and the Fari Beach Club cover the rest, with Veli Bar and GoGo Burger at lunch and free gelato at Tuk Tuk each afternoon. Roots, the pure vegetarian restaurant cooking from the island's own garden, opens on request, so tell us if you want a table there. Book restaurants about a week before you arrive.

Exceptional family stay
We had a wonderful (4th) stay at Patina Maldives, and what continues to stand out is the genuine thoughtfulness and attentiveness of the entire team.

A wonderful island a property where you are instantly welcomed by staff. The feeling of this island is home away from home. The room is welcoming and spacious.
A very good trip
A very perfect experience. The patina is beautiful in both rainy and sunny weather. Every person I met was very friendly. The Chinese butler Zac is especially good and very attentive.

Coral Frame Workshop on Monday at 11:00 at Veli Bar Beach, Ceramic Coral Workshop Monday and Thursday at 16:00, Ghost Net Bracelet Workshop Wednesday at 16:00. Coffee art with the baristas at Portico most afternoons at 14:00. Beach volleyball, badminton, water polo, teqball, petanque and floating table tennis run through the week. All of that is included. What is charged: the Wellness Studio classes at USD 35 a session, the padel clinic on Friday and the tennis clinic on Saturday at USD 40, and the boat trips. Sandbank Visit at 15:00 Tuesday and Friday and Reef Discovery Adventure at 15:00 Monday and Thursday, both USD 150. Footprints Kids Club runs 10:00 to 18:00 daily for ages four to eleven, with a themed day each day of the week.
Evenings
Three boat options before dinner, all charged. Wildlife Cruise 17:30 Wednesday and Saturday, USD 150. Sunset Cruise 18:00 Monday and Thursday, USD 180. The Luxury Sunset Cruise on the Jolly Roger sails Sunday only at USD 250. Traditional Sunset Fishing goes 18:00 Tuesday, Friday and Sunday for USD 150, and Night Snorkelling runs 19:00 Thursday and Sunday for USD 150. Then dinner, and this is where the money is. The half board in your package covers dinner at Portico or Wok Society, which is two rooms on an island built around its restaurants. Enhanced half board at USD 53 per adult per night opens Helios, Farine and the Fari Beach Club, about 32,700 rupees for two over three nights. Our view: on an island whose whole argument is the dining, taking the base plan and paying a la carte at the venues you actually wanted is usually the worse number, and we will run both for you. Two traps. Drinks are charged as you go on every plan, because full board is the ceiling and there is no all-inclusive to buy into. And your meal credit does not work at Arabesque or Tum Tum, which belong to the Ritz-Carlton next door. The dhoni across is free. The dinner is not.
Day 8, leaving
Nothing to plan around. The boat runs at any hour, so a dawn flight home does not lose you a night the way it would on a seaplane island. Check the out-of-hours surcharge again if your departure falls late or very early.
Who this island's day does not suit
Anyone whose idea of a morning is a snorkel off their own steps. Patina is priced at a level where people assume the reef comes with it.
What you will still pay
The package covers the tax and service stack, the green tax, breakfast, your half board and the return speedboat, so we add nothing on top. What lands on your folio is every drink, any restaurant outside your plan, the spa, and the water programme. Every excursion price above is quoted before 10 per cent service and 17 per cent TGST, so a USD 150 trip reaches you at about USD 193 and the Jolly Roger at about USD 322. Diving is USD 200 a single dive, which sounds high next to other islands until you notice it includes all equipment, boat fees and insurance where most resorts charge those separately.
