Accessible from anywhere on the island, and the fish life is reliable: reef sharks, rays, plenty of schooling fish. The coral is another matter. Bleaching hit this reef hard and it is still recovering, so expect structure and fish rather than colour. The best section is the small drop-off on the spa side. Currents can make the far side hard work. Guests also report that the widest, softest beach fronts the lower-numbered beach villas, which are the cheaper ones, and we will check that for your dates.

About the resort
JOALI Maldives is the art island of Raa Atoll. Installations by Porky Hefer, Misha Kahn and Sophie Kitching stand around the island, and a resident artist runs ceramics and mixed-media workshops in the Art Studio. Every one of the seventy-three villas has its own pool and a Jadugar butler.
It is also the JOALI that welcomes children all year. The Muramas kids' club is here, not at the sister island, JOALI BEING, which keeps under-twelves to set retreat dates. Families who want design and good food without a quiet-please atmosphere book this one.
What you pay
Pick your dates and a villa and the price is the whole stay for two: the villa, breakfast and dinner daily, the return shared seaplane and green tax. A limited stay window is priced here, so ask us if your dates fall outside it.
Water is the cheaper side this season. The three overwater villas sit below both beach villas. What a beach villa adds is garden, a much larger plot around a similar-sized villa.
Stay longer and each night gets cheaper. The seaplane is paid once, so a fifth night adds less than the first three averaged. A week is the better buy per night.
Children are added to your two. A child aged six to eleven is charged for the villa and their seaplane seat, and a third guest of twelve or over more again. Tell us everyone's ages and we will price it.
What's included, and what isn't
In the price: your villa for two, breakfast and dinner daily, the return shared seaplane, green tax, champagne or a non-alcoholic alternative and a fruit basket on arrival, your Jadugar butler, unpacking and packing on request, wifi, non-motorised watersports and snorkel gear, scheduled fitness and yoga classes, twice-daily turndown and a bicycle each.
Not in the price: your international flights, travel insurance, lunch, drinks beyond the welcome bottle, Indian TCS, and anything not named above.
Who this isn't for
Snorkellers who want colour. The house reef is open from anywhere on the island and the fish are reliable: reef sharks, rays, big schools. The coral took heavy bleaching and is still recovering. The best stretch is the small drop-off on the spa side, and currents make the far side hard work.
A family of four in an entry villa. The Water Villa with Pool and Beach Villa with Pool take two adults and one child. Two children means a Luxury villa.
Anyone landing at Velana after 15:30. The seaplane is 45 minutes and flies in daylight only, so a later arrival means a night in Malé first. A domestic flight and speedboat is the other way in. Send us your flights before you buy them.
Before you book
These prices carry a booking deadline and are for new bookings only. They cannot be applied to a booking you have already made. They combine with JOALI's Repeater, Honeymoon and Anniversary benefits and with the Kids Offer, and nothing else.
The festive period is not priced on this page, Christmas and New Year included. We can still book them. The residences and family beach villas are not priced here either. Ask us for them.
On the beach, the cheaper villa may have the better sand. Guests tell us the widest, softest stretch fronts the lower-numbered beach villas. Ask us and we will check which one you would get.

How is it different from JOALI BEING?
JOALI BEING is a wellbeing island designed for adults, with children admitted only during scheduled retreat periods. JOALI Maldives is the art island, it has the Muramas kids’ club, and families are welcome all year. Same owners, same atoll, very different holidays.
How do I get there?
By the return shared seaplane from Velana International Airport, about 45 minutes, and it is in the price. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so if you land after 15:30 you spend a night in Malé first. What meal plan is included?
Half board: breakfast and dinner daily for everyone paying in the villa. Lunch and drinks are charged on the island, apart from champagne or a non-alcoholic alternative and a fruit basket on arrival. Your Jadugar butler, wifi, non-motorised watersports and snorkel gear, scheduled fitness and yoga classes and a bicycle each are in the price too.
How many villas are there, and what sizes?
Seventy-three villas and residences. The water villas run from 100 m² interior in a 240 m² footprint up to 108 m² in 280 m². Beach villas have similar interiors on far larger plots, from 680 m² to 865 m², so the space you gain is garden. Above these sit two-bedroom villas, family beach villas with two pools, and residences up to a four-bedroom at 500 m² indoors.
We are two adults and two children. Which villa?
A Luxury category. The standard Water Villa with Pool and Beach Villa with Pool each take two adults and one child only. The Luxury Water, Luxury Sunset Water and Luxury Beach villas take two children, and above those are two-bedroom and family villas.
Where can I eat?
Four restaurants and a bar. Vandhoo covers Southeast Asian, Chinese and Indian and serves breakfast. Saoke is Japanese, suspended over the water and designed by Noriyoshi Muramatsu, with sushi, sake and teppanyaki. Bellinis is Italian and TUH’U is Levantine. Mura Bar runs from lunch to midnight and holds a whiskey and cigar lounge. There is also a wine cellar with daily tastings, Chef’s Garden for lunch, Her Kitchen for cooking classes and La Joie for chocolate and ice cream.
What is there to do besides the beach?
Art is the point: installations across the island by Porky Hefer, Misha Kahn and Sophie Kitching, and an Art Studio running ceramics, glazing and mixed-media workshops with a resident artist. Beyond that there are tennis, padel, archery, dhoni sailing and a spa. The Muramas kids' club keeps younger guests busy.
