I highly recommend this magical place to everyone. I already visited here a year ago with my family, and it is no coincidence that we came back. Fabulous pools, excellent food, but perhaps the best part is the very kind and well-trained staff. They managed to further enhance the quality of service for this year, which is extraordinary. From the moment I landed, the team at InterContinental Maldives made me feel incredibly welcomed and cared for as a solo traveler. I immersed myself in the AVI Wellness Journey, which turned out to be the highlight of my stay. I spent my days with Wellness Mentor Seema, who patiently guided me through breathing techniques and meditation. Her wisdom and gentle guidance have given me tools I will carry with me for life. Culinary experiences at the resort were equally memorable — especially Fish Market and Umi Café. Highly recommended for solo travelers looking for a soulful blend of wellness, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality.
Worth choosing the resort for. One or two caveats on entry point or current.
The draw here is not coral, it is the young manta rays resident in the lagoon, seen most reliably from December to April. That lagoon is the largest natural one in the country, which is the trade-off: most of the shoreline is sand rather than reef, and the usable shore entry is concentrated at the spa and gym end. Guests also report blacktips, turtles and eagle rays, and the island is a turtle nesting site. The reef took bleaching damage that is still visible in places. The Marine Discovery Centre runs daily snorkels and manta tracking, and we will confirm what is included.
Land at Velana after 15:30 and the last transfer of the day will have gone, which means a night in Malé before you reach the island.
There is a second way in. Domestic flight to Dharavandhoo + speedboat, about 65 min, for arrivals at Velana up to 16:20.
Shared seaplane, daylight only. Land at Velana in the evening and you spend a night in Malé first, so send us your flights and we will check the connection before you book.
