Dhawa Ihuru is a small island in North Malé Atoll, 25 minutes from Velana by speedboat. No seaplane, so no daylight cut-off and no night lost in Malé. The house reef wraps the whole island and is among the most celebrated in the country.
What this actually costs
Pick a villa and a package above. What moves the number after that is how you spend the days.
- Much of the island is free. Coral planting with the Marine Lab, house reef snorkelling, Save the Reef sessions, catamaran sailing, kayaking, table tennis and the Bodu Beru evenings cost nothing.
- The excursions are not. Guided snorkelling safaris, dives over the Rannamaari wreck, dolphin cruises, Vadhaa Dhiun fishing and the PADI boat dives are charged as you take them, and so is the 8lements spa.
- The overwater Japanese room, Madi Hiyaa, is at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru next door, so dinner there is a boat ride as well as a bill.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants a big island and a long list of restaurants. Ihuru is small: Riveli for the buffet and the catch, in-villa dining, Velaavani for sunset drinks. You come for the reef and the quiet, and that is the trade.
