Nika sits on the western rim of North Ari Atoll, 73 km from the airport, reached by a 25-minute seaplane that lands at the island’s own platform. It opened in 1983, which makes it one of the first resorts in the country, and it still runs on an Italian rhythm.
All 44 villas are built the traditional way, in coral blocks, coconut palm trunks and palm leaves, with antiques and Maldivian art inside. Small enough that the staff know your name by the second morning.
What this actually costs
Rates move with the season, so we quote them against your dates rather than publishing one figure. The choice that changes your bill most is the meal plan, and there are two.
- All-inclusive covers water, tea and coffee, soft drinks and juice, house wine, beer, selected spirits and cocktails, and sparkling wine by the glass. Premium brands and fresh juices are charged. Two hours a day of non-motorised watersports, snorkelling gear, one guided tour of Nika Reef and one local island excursion per stay come with it.
- Soft all-inclusive keeps every one of those activities and drops the alcohol: water, tea and coffee, soft drinks, juice and mocktails. If one of you does not drink, price both and compare, because the activity side is identical.
- Neither plan covers in-room dining or the minibar, water aside. The bar hours set the rest of the limit: Acqua Alta runs 11:00 am to 1:00 am, the beach bar and coffee shop 8:30 am to 9:00 pm.
- Villa counts matter on an island this size. There are 8 water villas, 10 beach villas and a single Sultan Suite, so the category you want can be gone months ahead. Ask early and name the villa.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants to eat when they are hungry. Breakfast runs 9:00 to 10:30, lunch 2:00 to 3:30 and dinner 9:00 to 10:00 at night. That is a Mediterranean day. It suits some guests enormously and irritates others, and if your children eat at six, this is not your island.
Anyone expecting a contemporary resort. These are traditional builds in coral and palm, not glass and concrete. Jacuzzis feature in some beach categories, and the swimming pool belongs to the spa.
Large parties in one room. Most categories cap at three adults; only the family villas and the Sultan Suite take five.
Before you book
- The seaplane flies in daylight only. A late arrival into Malé means a night in the capital before you reach the island, so book a morning flight out of India and you keep the resort night you paid for.
- Tell us the ages of any children when you enquire. The Deluxe Beach Villa, the two Family Beach categories and the Sultan Suite are the ones that take two children alongside the adults. Check-in is 2:00 pm.
- The diving is the draw. The dive centre is PADI-certified and the sites off this corner of North Ari are among the best known in the country. Catamaran, kayak and windsurf sit on the beach.
Tell us your dates, who is travelling and which villa you have in mind, and we will come back with availability, a transfer-inclusive total and both meal plans priced side by side. Message our Maldives specialists on WhatsApp or send us an enquiry. We reply within 24 hours.
