Sun Siyam Iru Veli sits in Dhaalu Atoll, 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana. It is small by Sun Siyam standards: 125 villas, every one with its own pool, on an island guests keep describing as a reef with a resort attached rather than the other way round.
The house reef rings the island and you get in from the beach or straight off an overwater deck. Blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, manta rays, turtles and clouds of fish, and dolphins pass often enough that a villa category is named after them.
What this actually costs
Every price is the whole villa for two people, with the return seaplane and every Maldivian tax already inside. Indian TCS is added separately on the total invoice value.
Two different things sit on the dropdown. September and October are a short offer on half board, and it also brings a floating breakfast, a sixty-minute massage for two and a candlelit dinner, with two teenagers under sixteen staying and eating free. It stops at the end of October.
From November the price is the resort's 24-hour all-inclusive dine-around, which covers meals and drinks across Aqua Orange, Grouper Grill, Roma and the bars. Teppanyaki and the wine cellar are charged.
On the September and October dates the Family Beach Villa costs exactly what the Beach Villa costs: ₹241,400 for three nights, ₹288,200 for four. Take the bigger room. From November it carries a supplement.
Book sixty days ahead and the resort takes fifteen per cent off the villa rate, ten per cent at thirty days. It turns on the day you book rather than the day you travel, so it is not on the dropdown, but we apply whichever you qualify for.
Who this isn’t for
Anyone who wants a big island. There is a Turtle Kidz Club and a family pool, so children are genuinely welcome, but a water park, a football pitch and twenty restaurants are a different Sun Siyam island and we sell those too.
Families with toddlers who want to be over the water. The overwater villas are not recommended for young children because of the layout, so take a beach category.
Anyone travelling over Christmas or New Year. Those dates are not on the dropdown, because both nights carry a compulsory gala dinner and no check-out is allowed on 30 or 31 December. We book them, we just cost them by hand.
Before you book
Seaplanes fly in daylight only. Land at Velana before 15:30 or you spend the first night in Male at your own cost. Sun Siyam has its own airport lounge with refreshments and showers, and aims to fly you out within three hours of check-in. Send flight details ten days ahead to hold the seats.
Going home, anyone on an international flight leaving Male before 09:00 travels back the previous afternoon. Seaplane baggage is 20 kg checked plus 5 kg cabin.
Every category takes three adults, or two adults and two children. The two residences sleep four. Two-bedroom residences exist on both the beach and the water, one of each, so we price those on request.
