The five-star, brand-new, private island Emerald Maldives, which officially opened on December 4th, 2019, shelters the world’s most diverse marine life and envelopes one of the Maldives’ biggest lagoons. An unfamiliar feature of this private island resort is that Emerald covers a wraparound reef, just so that visitors are never further than a few steps from the sea, and probable encounters with exotic turtles, fish, and manta rays. Emerald augments the natural charm with a setup that exists in congruence with the surrounding seascape. Driftwood, bamboo, native langhi langhi leaves have all strategically been incorporated into construction. Plus, in accordance with its commitment towards sustainability and service, the property functions majorly devoid of single-use plastic. It anticipates to rely mainly on renewable energy in the next five years.

Then there is indeed the property’s biggest asset – Aldo Cadau. Emerald offers an array of international cuisines, wisely curated by the Sardinian-born chef, at its four restaurants, each with a distinct theme, ambiance, and style. It’s only obvious that the chef would end up here, at a place owned and managed by native Italians. Fun fact, Italians send more tourists to this area of the world as compared to any other country. Cadau’s focus isn’t limited to the acquainted Mediterranean cuisine; rather, he prioritizes authenticity and creativity. Between two cafes and four restaurants, widely-spread across the island’s 50 acre trail, Cadau plans and plates everything – be it Brazilian beef at Amazonico or Teppanyaki at the pan-Asian Le Asiatique. The resort’s signature Aqua Restaurant facilitates barefoot luxury dining, where chefs make dishes in front of guests at different cooking stations arranged parallel to each other. For those who want to indulge in delicacies like fresh-caught lobster, the Beach Club Grill Restaurant is the place to go to. At Emerald, Maldivian local food, too, is served every Thursday night. Bonus – the menu always varies, with an addition of new flavours and variety each time. Despite all the fancy, fashionable, outdoor setting, a lot of guests, so far, have preferred to have the delicacies at their over-water villas – after all, it’s tough to escape the privacy and seclusion of one’s own gifted space.

Now that there’s a mention of the ambiance and interiors, there’s no way to forget crediting the creators of the property – The Emerald Collection – an Italian brand popular for its management and creation of luxury, all-inclusive hotels and resorts across the Indian Ocean, Caribbean region, and East Africa. Emerald Resort was built with an emphasis on sustainability and thus, every villa has been equipped with solar panels. The island is also outfitted with a recyclable irrigation system and composting facility, and plastic waste is eliminated by using reusable glass bottles and paper straws.
