Royal Raid, the first mountain race in Mauritius, consists of two races being held simultaneously – the Royal Raid 80 and the Royal Raid 35. In the former, 80 kilometers of distance will be covered within a span of 22 hours. In the second race, 35 kilometers need to be covered in 09 hours. The race gives you the opportunity to experience unbidden adventure and trekking at the heart of the beautiful tropical country of Mauritius.
This race gives you the opportunity of exploring the island country in its entirety and in the best and most adventurous ways possible. The places of interest that you will come across in these races are the Yemen Nature Reserve, the sugar cane fields of Bel Ombre Sugar Estate and Black River National Park.
The scenic beauty of the Yemen Nature Reserve is breathtaking, with a multicultural population to enjoy. You will find a number of indigenous and exotic plants in this area, giving an exotic and colorful feel to the mountains.
The Black River Gorges National Park too houses an innumerable variety of endemic birds and the rarest endemic plants of Mauritius. This area has a high ecological value. You will come across the sugar cane fields of Bel Ombre Sugar Estate in the last leg of the Royal Raid. During the time when the Royal raid takes place, the sugar cane is fully grown.
In case you are willing to participate, you will need to make provisions for your own supplies. However, you will be able to get fresh supplies at each checkpoint, along the track. The usual supplies that are available are water, cola, fruits, salts, soups and meals.
