Foundation for the first Digital Planetarium laid at Jorhat

In an important step towards forwarding scientific study in India, the foundation stone of the Jorhat Science Centre-cum-Planetarium was laid down near Rajmao Pukhuri, Jorhat, Assam. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who did the honors of laying the foundation stone gave the inaugural speech and said that this is going to be the first ever digital planetarium of North-east India. In order to create a greater impact about the importance of cleanliness in the country, the Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) arranged two block level programs that were held at Panchgram and Katlicherra blocks of Hailakandi district of Assam on October 8th and 9th 2009. Ambubachi Mela, is a unique mystical festival held annually during monsoon in the Kamakhya Devi Temple at Guwahati in Assam. It is a four-day festival where thousands of devotees, including a number of foreigners come to seek blessings and miracle. The Majuli Island located in the Brahmaputra River happens to be the largest river island in India. The festival unites the culture and tradition of the northeastern state of Assam.
