Casino, that's Sikkim Government's trump card for this season to lure tourist. Sikkim is already experiencing a nearly 40% increase in tourist inflow and that makes Sikkim the only state in the country that offers land based live casino facilities and a complete casino experience. Nareash Subba, Chief Executive Officer of Casino Sikkim sounded quiet enthusiastic while saying that it is the assistance of the State Government which actually helped the dream to take shape into reality. He is also given the responsibility to build the casino and attract tourists. In this context, Subba added that with the airport foundation stone laid, a bustling nightlife in Sikkim is not a dream, too far away.

Sikkim's new trump card to lure tourist

Sikkim is all set to become the second state in India after Goa, to provide tourists the thrill of a casino. The Park Sarovar Plaza Group of hotels already has the go-ahead signal from the government to emerge as the five star hotel cum casino in Gangtok. G.P Upadhyaya sounded quiet exuberant and optimistic while saying that the project will be completed within this year only. Sikkim tourism will get a huge boost by this particular move as the ripples are already being felt by the tourism industry of the state. The amount of curiosity, the Sikkim Casino games Act has generated, one can be very sure that it is just a matter of time before Sikkim experiences a tourism explosion. Sikkim is set against the backdrop of some of the most scenic mountains in the world and from now, onwards you can add to it the thrill of a casino. Once the casinos are under operation, it will just be a tourist's dream place.

High expectation on casinos

Lots of people are counting on the success of the casinos. For instance, Pankaj Saxena, General Manager, The Royal Plaza, Sikkim is quiet optimistic that the casinos situated against the backdrop of majestic mountains will surely lure a lot more tourists. Many firmly believe the fact that the legislation of casinos will surely be a major boost to the tourism sector of Sikkim and the move will not only draw domestic tourists but international tourists as well.

Big business waiting for Sikkim

To make most of this tourism potential – Royal Plaza, which is currently a four star hotel in Gangtok is currently undergoing upgradation to become a five star hotel with a casino. The “no-objection certificate” required from health, energy, power and fire services department is being produced by the interested parties for casino permits. Business groups like the Ambujas are also assessing the situation.

After Sikkim has its own casino, it will be able to lure high-spending tourists and is expected to attract a major chunk of tourists who visit Nepal to enjoy the experience of casino. Sikkim will be able to tap into the segment of casino lovers and the effort will boost the tourism of Sikkim, which is the backbone of economy of this land-locked state.
