From January 1st to June 30th, 2009 Maldives has experienced 318,723 foreign tourists, which is almost a 10.5 percent drop compared to the same period last year. Most of the tourists to Maldives are from Switzerland, Austria, Italy, UK, Germany, France, China, Russia, Japan and Korea.

In June 2009, nearly 36,205 tourists visited Maldives whereas at the same time last year Maldives experienced 40,283 tourists. Analyzing the arrival of tourists till the end of June, it was found that 51,069 tourists arrived from UK while around 51,542 Italians visited Maldives. Around 29,023 tourists from France, 33,748 German tourists and 21,306 Chinese tourists also visited Maldives this year.

Records showed that the lowest number of tourists in the past six months arrived during the months of February and March.
